Overview:

The activities will begin with anecdotes that relates to the

common problems people encounter in the Philippines. This
then, will enable students to think for solutions that is backed up
with Science. Students will formulate hypotheses without
knowing and make conclusions at the end. This is rigorous and
teacher should scaffold and should be skillful with probing
questions so students can activate their innate curiosity and
reasoning skills.
Objective:

The student will be able to identify

simple machines and explain how it help
people to do work. They will also learn
about efficiency.

sell. But, he looks up to the tree. How will he harvest his mangoes.
If you were Mang Juan what would be the best thing to do?

Group students. Let them think about the problem. Let the decide about the best
solution. Guide them try the solution through an experiment. Students after they 3
THINK DECIDE and DO will share it with the class.(Answers may be Mang Juan will
climb, use a pole, or cut the trees.)

Teacher must supervise students.

Experiments/simulations must be approved by the teacher.

Teacher will help the class find the best way Mang Juan will harvest the mangoes. Teacher already named
the simple machines used but not explained the entire concept of simple machines. It will be explained 2
when anecdotes are done.

Mang Juan when he lifted the sacks/baskets of mangoes he found out that it was
too heavy for him to lift. If you were Mang Juan, what would you do?

Students are grouped again. They will THINK DECIDE and DO. 3

Concepts/Add More Info
To end the lesson, the teacher will discuss that the things they
came up with are called Simple Machines. Teacher will then add 2
more ideas they could have used and machines that would be
more efficient. Teacher will then should guide students to
understand that simple machines makes work easier and faster
at a shorter period of time. Teacher can then begin with lesson
3
about efficiency.
