Warnings

Danger of electric shock.

The device can be connected to perilous voltages.

Caution £ Switch the device to power-off state before working on the device.

Danger of electrostatic discharge

Electronic components are sensitive to electrostatic discharges that might

Caution destroy the device.
£ Make sure to deviate electrostatic charges from your body; we recom-
mend that you were an electrostatic wristband.

Interruption of data transmission.

Data transmission will be interrupted during any workings at the transmis-

Caution sion line and/or deactivation of the power supply.
£ Make sure that that any workings will only be carried out on inactive
lines (without data transmission) or during quiet times to reduce interfe-
rences for the customers.

Danger of damage on the devices or service interruption.

Any access of unauthorized third persons may cause damaged devices

Caution and/or interrupted services.
£ Make sure that subracks are only installed in lockable loacations.

Danger by overvoltage.

During faults unprotected voltages may occur that are dangerous to per-
Caution sons.
£ Take care for sufficient grounding of the housings, i.e. by connecting
the grounding contact.

1 CIMT2 - Cable Impedance Matching Transformer

2-Pair

Fig. 1: CIMT2: Front and rear view

CIMT2 is a matching transformer that is employed for SHDSL transmission.

CIMT2 transforms the impedance for copper pairs by the factor 1.13.
The SHDSL transmission systems (e.g. STIM1, LineRunner LCM/DTM) are
optimised for lines as mentioned in the ITU-T Recommendation G.992.1
which suggests a line impedance of 135 Ohms.
If impedance is higher then transmission quality may deteriorate so that no
signal can be transmitted reliably.
In some cases CIMT2 may help as it transforms the impedance to fit the
standard even on non-standard cables.
Non-standard cables have been found at power suppliers and railway com-
panies.

Prerequisites

1.2 Prerequisites

Devices of the type CIMT2 have to be installed at the end of the transmis-
sion line with high impedance - for this reason you need two devices for
point-to-point connections.
Devices of the type CIMT2 require a mounting rack with top-head rails or a
suitable mechanical adapter.
You need the following materials:
Required materials
Material Purpose
Top-hat rail CIMT2 can only be fixed reliably on top-hat rails. Other instal-
lation locations are not permitted
CIMT2 One unit of the type CIMT2 is required for each two copper
pairs.
It is allowed to connect only one copper pair.
If you connect only one copper pair the other pair of connec-
tors may be employed for the copper pair of a further device.
Transmission line to This transmission line can be maximum copper pair. The
the local terminal impedance of this line is nominal 135 ohms
device
Transmission line to This transmission line can be maximum one copper pair. The
the remote terminal impedance of this line is nominal 174 ohms
device
Slotted screwdriver To unfix and fix the screws in the screw terminals at the
3 mm device.
Stripper To skin the ends of the transmission lines if necessary.
Wire cutter To reduce the transmission line if necessary.
Planning documents Show the transmission lines affected and which copper pairs
belong to a transmission line.
Isolation material To insulate free cable ends during working steps in order to
prevent short voltages.

1.3 Installation

Proceed as follows:
1. Affix CIMT2 on hat rail.
2. Repeat for each of the connectors:
3. Remove isolation from transmission line.
4. Insert wire with low impedance into In 1 and the other in In 2.
5. Tighten screws.
6. Insert wire with high impedance into Out 1 and the other in Out 2.
7. Tighten screws.

Impedance adapter is installed.
