Case Study of J.M. Smucker

1. J.M. Smucker is a manufacturing company of comfort foods. The members of the


company from the CEO down to its rank and file represents the image and reputation of
the company. And they believe that the quality of your personality reflects the quality of
what you produce or provide. Therefore if you are in your highest quality then the
products and services will also be. As well as to achieve the highest business ethics, the
people of the company must also have the highest personal ethics. That is why ethics is
important companies like J.K. Smucker. They believe that for them to have exceptional
results their people must also be at their exceptional ethics.

If ethics are upheld by the company therefore everyone practices honesty where one will
not attempt to steal in the inventory. They respect one another which is the key to
diversity. Having trust with their co-workers that makes their foundation stronger.
Responsible enough that have the ability to be independent and can make their own
decision without authorization. This helps employees’ total well-being. The company will
receive long-term benefits by an increase in productivity, weakness of the employees will
be monitored and supported, will also avoid committing unlawful acts which lead to
success.

2. The employee will benefit from working under the company’s labeled as the best place to
work. It is a pride to be part of such companies with high ethical standards. Therefore the
company has an edge when it comes to recruitment due to its well-established image. Yet
at the same time, this will increase the number of applicants which will lead to additional
expenses and workload in the department of human resources. But other than that overall
it is leverage of being recognized in public as a good employer. Because not only will it
attract employees but also customers. For example, the issue to boycott Nutri Asia
because the company did not regularize their employees. This shows that when the
company is behaving ethically people will love to work with them and customers will
trust them as well.

3. As a potential employee, the values and culture of J.M Smucker are appealing. Working
in their company will contribute to my well-being. The training they are offering and
working place ambiance will help me to be a better person and be better at doing my job.
They practice small recognition by saying thank you or job well done, which gives the
employees a positive impact. Listening to the voices of employees is also a factor
because it gives assurance that they are building a strong relationship within the
company. They also see the good in each and every one, where it will result in a positive
atmosphere in the company. Lastly, they have a sense of humor to keep their company
pleasant and not uptight. They give importance to their employees and take good care of
them.
