Air pollution in Medellín

Air pollution in Medellín and throughout the Aburrá Valley is becoming more worrisome, because
every day it causes more diseases and deaths. The air is mainly polluted by industry, livestock and
vehicles; These three, being a great boost for the city's commerce, are growing more, leaving
Medellín with so much particulate material that it is almost impossible to expel it over its great
mountains. For this reason, it is important to take precautions with people who have breathing
difficulties or with the elderly since these are the most affected.

Much research has been done in order to reduce particulate matter in the air and prevent as many
diseases as possible. With this in mind, an idea based on the use of algae is proposed so that these
with their great CO2 adsorption capacity can remove the greatest amount of this pollutant from
the air.

It is a device that contains algae, located in a place with high levels of contamination, so that they
can adsorb more easily and pure air can be filtered so that people can do their activities with much
more safety and confidence.
