Chapter III

DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter briefly discussed the materials and methods and data gathering

procedure that were used in the development of modified workbench.

Project Design

A workbench most likely is just a table use when mechanic are working with

tools. These modified workbenches have a drawer to accommodate tools and

equipment. The modified workbench will be convenience to those people who are

short or taller, it contain a hydraulic lifter that allow the workbench to adjust its

height.

Procedures
Start by framing out the table using 3/4'' x 3/4'' x 20' steel angle bar and

welding each corner together using the welding machine. Make two frame of the table

for the upper part and lower part of the table. Once the upper part frame and lower

part frame of the table is finish, moved on to adding the legs to the table. Used a piece

of angle to keep the legs square and straight. Use 3/4 s40″ steel pipe for the internal

legs and use 1 s40″ steel pipe for the external legs. Welding each corner together the

four 3/4 s40″ steel pipe on the lower part frame of the table and the four 1 s40″ steel

pipe on the upper part frame of the table. On the centre of the upper part frame of the

table, welding a piece of steel angle bar for the crocodile hydraulic jack to lift the

table and pull the table down .On the lower part frame of the table, install the caster

wheel to each corner of the frame using the bolts and nuts. Welding four legs using

the steel angle bar on the centre of the lower part frame to hold the crocodile

hydraulic jack. Once all the welding procedures are done, paint all the metal using

Primer Metal Paint to prevent corrosion development. When the primer metal paint is

dry, next is paint the metal using spray paint.

Cut the 60 x 96 in plywood to the size of the upper and lower frame of the

table. Once the 60 x 96 in plywood are cut, install now the plywood to the frame

using bolts and nuts. Using the 60 x 96 in plywood, make a cabinet to the lower left

part of table for the container of the air compressor and make 2 layer cabinet to the

lower right of the table for the container of tools and equipment. Install all the cabinet

accessories.
