DIRECTION: Define the following terms and write your answer.

Personality-refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and


behaving.

Humorism- an ancient theory that help came from balance between the body liquids termed
humors.

Introvert-a person who prefers calm environments, limits social engagement, or embraces a
greater than average preference for solitude. It is also a person characterized by concern
primarily with his or her own thoughts and feelings.

Feelers-makes decisions on the individual case, in a subjective manner based on what they
believe to be right within their own value systems.

Openness-indicates how open-minded a person. A person with a high level of openness to


experience in a personality test enjoys trying new things. They are imaginative, curious, and
open-minded. Individuals who are low in openness to experience would rather not try new
things. They are close-minded, literal and enjoy having a routine.

 Write something about your personality using the five aspects of personality.
 I am Mary Carol B. Fabiculana a 21 years old. I consider myself as a moody
person because sometimes it change very fast and depend on the situation I’ve
experience. The reason why I adapt the five aspect of personalities is it because
of my attitude. The personalities is “openness” I have this kind of personalities
because I want to try something new, new things that I’ve never experience
before, I want to learn new thing that surely I will apply to my everyday lives.
The second personalities is “extraversion” because I have this attitude because I
love to communicate with others making new memories with new friends that I
will treasure until I’ve become old. I really love being extraversion because it tells
me how meaning full our life is, because I’m energetic person I give joy to the
person I’ve meet and I made smile to others. Sometimes I have a softhearted to
a person that need some help. I help automatically to the person that really need
my help without any return. Because of my moody personality there’s a time
that I don’t want to socialize to anyone but I want one only friend to talk, that
why agreeableness personality enters. Times flies and there’s a lot of changes in
our life specially in times of pandemic we are facing right now. I experience to be
alone no one want to talk with me even checking me if I am okay. So because of
that I realize that in our life there’s a time that you need to stand by your own.
 What do you think the importance of personality development in our industry?
 For me the importance of personal development in our industry it helps to
develop an impressive personality and makes you stand apart from the rest.
Personality development also plays an essential role in improving
one's communication skills. Individuals ought to master the art of expressing
their thoughts and feelings in the most desired way.
 What are the personality traits that should be possess by a person working in the
hospitality industry?

 (1)Great communication and language skills, in hospitality industry you need to


communicate well in a persons you have meet, you need to learn different
language not also the universal language but also the basic language of other
countries. (2) Cultural awareness you need to respect the culture of others to
avoid hurting their feelings. (3) Positive Attitude when you are working in
hospitality industry you need to be positive always how hard the situation is.
 Choose at least two theories in studying personality and compare it.

 The Neo- Freudian Theories is focused on more on the social environment and
on the effects of culture on personality while Biological Theories focus on the
role of genetic and the brain in shaping personality. It also explore how variation
in the individual personality variance may be rooted in natural selection.

TEST I. DEFINITION OF TERMS 

DIRECTION: DEFINE THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND WRITE YOUR ANSWER ON THE SPACE
PROVIDED. 

1. Communication Process- refers to a series of actions or steps taken in order to


successfully communicate.

2. Communication Barriers- is anything that prevents us from receiving and understanding


the messages others use to convey their information, ideas and thoughts. They can
interfere with or block the message you are trying to send.

3. Aggressive- is a method of being able to express one's needs and desires but doesn't
take into account the feelings of other people. It's a selfish and harmful type
of communication style.

4. ASSERTIVE- is a skill regularly referred to in social and communication skills training.


Being assertive means being able to stand up for your own or other people's rights in a
calm and positive way, without being either aggressive, or passively accepting 'wrong'.
5. Submissive- This type of people try their best to please others and avoid conflict. They
treat the needs of other as more important than theirs. They behave as if the other
person has more rights and more to contribute.

1. How to Deal with Inferiority Complex?

 When dealing with inferiority complex you need to figure out whom you feel
inferior to in the first place, try to find the cause of your feeling, understand that
we’re all inferior in some ways, stop wanting to be like other and stop worrying
about what others think.

2. Overcoming Communication Barriers

Checking whether it is a good time and place to communicate with the person, being
clear and using language that the person understands, communicating one thing at a
time, respecting a person’s desire to not communicate, checking that the person has
understood you correctly, communicating in a location that is free of distractions,
acknowledging any emotional responses the person has to what you have said and don’t
make any judgements about what someone may be experiencing, always ask!
3. Communication Barriers

 Attitudinal Barriers, Behavioral Barriers, Cultural Barriers, Language Barriers,


Environmental Barriers.

4. Process of communication process and explain

 Sender- is the individual who initiates a message and is also called the
communicator or source of communication.
 Encoding- means converting the idea into words or gestures that will convey
meaning. It consists in changing the information into some form of logical and
coded message.
 Message- It is the idea, information, view, fact, feeling, etc. that is generated by the
sender and is then intended to be communicated further.
 Channel- refers to the way or mode the message flows or is transmitted through.
 Receiver- is the person who is last in the chain and for whom the message was sent
by the sender. Once the receiver receives the message and understands it in proper
perspective and acts according to the message, only then the purpose of
communication is successful.
 Decoding- It is the process of converting the symbols encoded by the sender. After
decoding the message is received by the receiver.

5. Building Self-esteem and Self Confidence

 If you want to build your self-esteem and self-confidence you need to remember
to take care of yourself, be sure to relax, set goals for yourself, surround yourself
with the people who makes you feel good and keep visual reminders of things
that make you feel good.

1. What is the importance of communication within the organization?


 For me the importance of the communication in one organization is
communication is the key to share ideas and though and to understand each of
one. It also help each other to do their job and responsibilities.
2. What is the importance of strong communication that runs deep within a
business?
 The importance of strong communication that runs deep within a business is
good communicators can encourage employees to achieve your common goals.
With open communication both oral and written, workers in a team know their
responsibilities and when to ask for help for anything. Moreover, communicating
professionally and respectfully can develop a robust positive atmosphere at
work. When the team starts to get to know one another, they can build positive
team morale which is good for the company’s productivity.
3. Do you think inferiority complex is bad or good? Explain your answer.
 For me inferiority is a good thing because if there is no inferiorities is to be
without movement because we are alive, we encounter situations that require
more of us than we are currently prepared to offer. Because of inferiority is a
crucial in development it is very important to understand that these inferiority
feelings can motivate us “to ‘become’ and compel us to work together to
overcome.

what type of leadership style they possess. Explain your answers.
 Bruce Faber- the type of leadership of Bruce Faber is Democratic leadership
because Bruce Faber point out that the success of any hospitality industry
depends on the strength of its staff.
 Frances Kiradjian- Founder and CEO of the Boutique and Lifestyle Lodging
Association and the Travel Industry Executive Women’s Network, she used a
Strategic Leadership that concentrates for company’s operations and growth
opportunities.
 Robert LaPata – the type of leadership of Robert LaPata is Transformational
Leadership, LaPata has demonstrated a unique ability to turn conceptual ideas
into working realities by improving and transforming company conventions.
  Xavier Lividini - the type of leadership of Xavier Lividini is Transformational
Leadership, Lividini leverages his extensive expertise to help hotel owners,
lenders, developers, managers, and receivers achieve organizational and
financial success.
 Anthony Melchiorri - the type of leadership of Anthony Melchiorri is Coach Style
Leadership, Melchiorri has consistently proved that nothing is impossible if you

individual employees.

 The type of leadership I want to possess someday is Coach Style Leadership


because nothing is impossible in this world. You need to trust to yourself you can
do it and of course by the help of your talent and strong imagination that surely
will help you to grow your business and also you will help your employees how
to become a good entrepreneurs.

Direction: Read the following statements and answer it. Expound your answer and cite your
references.

1. What do you think are the importance of guest relation in tourism industry?
 It is very important to have a guest relation in tourism industry guest is the life
blood of the business. It aff ects businesses' reviews. Someti mes they
suggests that customers are likely to share a negati ve experience about
a business than a positi ve experience.
2. How will you promote guest relation as a technique as professional development?
• Develop smart objectives that describe the results to be achieved. • Develop and

pretest messages and materials that will appeal to your target audiences. • Create a
timeline. • Identify measures of success. • Recruit partners who can support your plan
and help you achieve your objectives.
3. In your own opinion do you agree that guest relation can affect a business? Explain your
answer by citing examples.
 It is very important to have a good relation in guest because if it is not there’s a
big effect it in your customer. They easily ruined the reputation of your business.
Example: There is a customers that order some of your menu and you are so busy
taking the order of other, so you ignore her like you can see her. Instead of she
will recommend your restaurant she will tell to their friends that the staff of that
restaurant is lack of good relation to the guest.
4. How will you promote guest relation as important technique in your business when you
received bunch of complains coming from your clients?
 There are situation that unexpected in business so that it is very important you
learn some techniques that surely needs if ever you received a bunch of
complains from the customer because it is the only way to calm your guest if
there’s some trouble happen between the two of you.

DIRECTION: Read the following question and expound your answer.

1. Among the types of intelligence choose at least three that are the most important when
working in hospitality industry. Explain your answer with substantial situation as
examples.
Interpersonal Intelligence – development of interpersonal intelligence is one of the
important part of being in the hospitality industry. Nowadays our society invites group
work, empathy and, social relationships. These skills can be developed esp. when we
expose ourselves to socialization and social education, the better we will be able to
solve problems and be empathic. When you have the development of this intelligence,
you have the ability to communicate better and, therefore, to develop good
relationships with customers/guest in the environment in which the person is
surrounded.
Linguistic Intelligence – Linguistic intelligence is characterized by a great ability to use
language as well as to learn new languages. People who possess this accentuated
intelligence have a great deal of ability to express what is on their mind by handling
words, speaking fluency, and being good at understanding others esp. when meeting
new people.

Intra – personal Intelligence – A person with well-developed intrapersonal intelligence


is in tune with themselves. They want to learn about and understand themselves
better. They aim to discover why they think, feel, act the way they do and learn how to
influence the habit patterns and behaviors they don’t like about themselves as much.

For example, those with intrapersonal intelligence are often self-disciplined. If you


know someone that’s able to self-motivate and is an ambitious self-starter, they’re
likely exercising their intrapersonal intelligence.

2. On the other hand, what are the least important? Explain your answer with substantial
situation as example?
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence- it is the ability for logical reasoning and
mathematical problems solving. The speed to solve this kind of problems is the indicator

that defines the level of logical-mathematical intelligence a person has.  


Example: Your manager is assigned you to audit the sale of the restaurant for 1 month to
see if the restaurant reach the target amount.
Existential Intelligence
Example: There’s an Italian old woman that need to go to a Comfort room and she is not
able to well because she have an injury so you as a staff you will offer some help.
Musical Intelligence- it is the ability to perceive, distinguish, transform and express
musical sounds’ timbre and pitch. It allows you to express yourself through musical
forms, it includes abilities such as singing in any musical gender, playing an instrument
with perfection
Example: One of your guest is requesting you to sing their favorite song for their
anniversary celebration.
3. What will be your strategies in promoting personality development for employees with
different type of intelligence?
Promoting the growth of your employees, both the best employee and the employees
who are not so good, is critical to your organization's success—no matter the
circumstances and ability of your hires. A true leader makes sure that her employees are
progressing in their careers and in their lives. This is always a primary responsibility—
right next to meeting financial goals. It's what differentiates you from an ordinary boss.
