TRIZ ANALYSIS

TOPIC:
ASSITIVE WALKER FOR ELDERLY.

ANALYSIS OF 40 PRINCIPLES (ONLY VALID PRINCIPLES INCLUDED)

PRINCIPLE 1: SEGEMENTATION Division of the whole system into multiple individual parts and
make the object easy to assemble and disassemble.

Our walking stick can be disassembled into multiple fragments which makes it compact and easy to
transport.

PRINCIPLE 2: SEPARATION. Removal of only fixed/specific parts out from the component

Base of Our stick is a removable part which can be easily removed whenever necessary.

PRINCIPLE 3: LOCAL QUALITY changing of object structure depending on the situation

Our Base plate structure can be changed depending on the situation we have a specific structure for
specific conditions.
PRINCIPLE 6: MULTIFUNCTIONALITY make an object perform multiple actions

Our product is multifunctional, it can be used as a walker, a support while climbing stairs, Alarm in case
of emergency, Torch in case of low visibility.

PRINCIPLE 7: NESTED DOLL placing objects inside one another

Our product is having multiple rods as height adjusters which are placed one inside other can be pulled
out whenever necessary.

PRINCIPLE 15: DYNAMIC PARTS division of object into parts which have relative motion between
them.

Our product is divided into multiple parts and relative motion between them also present, specially
between those rods which are used to adjust optimal height.

PRINCIPLE 20 : CONTIUITY OF USEFUL ACTIONS making all parts of an object to work at

maximum load all the time.

Our product can use all its available parts and make them work for all the time. Excluding things which
work using battery as primary source of power.

PRINCIPLE 22: A blessing in disguise: Every failure that our prototype will encounter paves the way
for further improvement of the product.
For example, if our stick is unstable or the joints are not very sturdy in the initial tests then these
primary shortcomings can be overcome in the primary tests itself so the problems actually help our
product become better if taken into consideration.

PRINCIPLE 23: Feedback: Eliminate the primary harmful action by adding it to another harmful action
to resolve the problem

If we act upon every feedback in good spirit and execute it right then the negative point of our stick in
the feedback will become a positive point on our stick’s resume.

PRINCIPLE 24: Intermediary: Merge one object temporarily with another that can be easily removed.

The base stand of our stick is removable to cater different needs and thus uses a fixture to hold it in
place.
PRINCIPLE 26: Copying: Using simpler inexpensive copies

Use prototypes for testing new systems so that any harm is detected early, use video conferencing as
we are doing during the development of our product to cut cost and practice social distancing also it is
the only practical means to meet when we live at such large distances.

PRINCIPLE 33: Homogeneity: Make objects that interact out of the same material

The stick for old age people is not too different from the usual stick and won’t confuse the end users.

PRINCIPLE 37: Thermal expansion: Using multiple materials in case of thermal expansion

Use thermal expansion (or contraction) of materials. If thermal expansion is being used, choose
multiple materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion.
The grip handle and friction contact pads on the tip should be compatible with the stick skeleton
material so they don’t fall off during temperature changes.

DEFINING IDEAL FINAL SOLUTION:

To build a walker which has an ability to provide support not only while walking but also while
climbing stairs. Moreover, it should be able to alert people nearby in case of emergency
situations like stick/ person falling down and the electric torch should help person using it
during dark or low visibility conditions.

BUILDING IDEAL SOLUTION:

Ideal solution for this stick is obtained by using material which makes it very strong and durable
without having much effect on the weight of the body. Moreover, the overall design of the stick
makes it highly comfortable to use.

PATTERN OF EVOLUTION:

Our product evolution matches with type 3 pattern of evolution that is segmentation of the
whole system or object in to smaller parts. Product is broken down into smaller parts so as to
make it flexible moreover this way the whole product is more manageable and easier to use
INHERIT CONTRADICTIONS:

1) If we are aiming on making stick highly stable and steady, this will increase the overall
mass of the stick and making it heavier and difficult to use.
2) Material used to build the stick can also varying effects on strength and durability of
product. When composites are used to build this product to make it lighter, the fact that
high amount of sudden forces leads to bending of the rod contradicts.
3) Improvement of design by making it sharper may often result in instability.
