Direction: Edit this file and type your solutions and answers.
I. Analyze the statement and write always, sometimes or never.
sometimes 1. The value of a in the exponential function f (x) = aˣ is 1.
always 2. The function y = 3ˣ is an exponential function.
always 3. The inverse of an exponential function is the logarithmic function.
always 4. The domain of an exponential function is the set of real numbers.
always 5. The logarithm of a number with the same base is 1.

II. Problem Solving

1. In 2002, the population of the Philippines was 10 million people. In 1996, it was 8.10 million
million. Using the population growth formula A = P ert , determine the value of r , Philippines’s
relative rate of growth.

A = P ert
10 million = 8.10 million x 2.71828^(0.039)(6)
10 million - 8.10 million/6
1,900,000/8,100,000
=23.4568
23.4568/6
= 3.9% = 0.039
8.10 million x 2.71828^(0.039)(6)
= 10235518.7 million
The Philippines’ relative rate of growth in 1996 from 2002 is 3.9% or 0.039.

2. Mr. Samson borrowed P 50,000 from a bank to start a small business. If the bank charges 5%
interest compounded annually, how much will he pay after 4 years?
A = P(1 + r/n)^nt
= P50,000(1+0.05/1)^1(4)
=P50,000(1.21550625)
= P60,775.31

3. Marlene has P 8,000 in a bank which is below her required maintaining balance. As penalty,
her money decreases at the rate of 2.5% every month. How much will she have after a year?

A = P(1 + r/n)^nt
= P8,000(1+0.025/12)^12(1)
= P8,000(1.02528846)
=P8,202.31
=P8,202.31-P8,000
=P202.31

4. A Grade 11 teacher monitors his students’ performance in GenMath monthly. He administers

a monthly parallel test to his students. He use the relation S (x) = 82 − 8ln⁡(x + 1) to find the class
mean on the test taken after x month/s
a. What is the mean score on the first test?
b. What is the mean score after 4th months?
c. What is the average scores of the 1st and 4th monthly test?

A. 82-8×ln(1+1)
= 76.45
B. 82-8×ln(4+1)
= 69.12
C. 76.45+69.12
=145.57
=145.57/2
=72.785
5. The intensity of a sound in decibels or the loudness is given by the formula d = 10 log ( )
I
Io

where I is the intensity of the sound being measured and I o is the intensity of a standard sound.
What is the rating of a normal voice which is 12,000 times as intense as the standard one?

d = 10 log ( 12,000
10−12 )
= 160.79 db
