Reaction paper about ‘’ Community organizing in times of disaster ( Tacloban) ‘’ :

The life of people in Tacloban after the landing typhoon Yolanda, made their lives miserable. The
main source of their needing were being destroyed by the typhoon Yolanda, their shelter, their source
of food, they lost love ones, source of income and also their livestock and poultries. The people in
Tacloban loses hope and their heart were being crushed by the typhoon Yolanda. They are also having
trouble in getting any relief goods and helps from other countries and they are also being relocated in
which far from their work/job and an area which has no basic needs like electricity and clean water
because their previous location were being implement as no build zone area and its policy is there will
be no any assistance that will be given to them.

Until the Community organizing program (UPA) arrives in their lives who taught them to become one
and to stand on their own feet not just relying on NGO’s and other helping organizations. And they
also teach them to strengthen their faith in God. The people of Tacloban now became united and their
place turned back into build zone area which means they can now receive any assistance from
governments. They work as a one, they help each other to recover their homes and after they
developed the transitional house they now can live properly, they also have clean water and electricity
which made their lives become easy way of living. These are the advantages of organized community.
And now that their community is being organized, programs that may help them is arriving on their
lives like livelihood in which makes them to have a business and training programs that they can
apply on their daily living. They also develop a committee in which responsible in any perspective
area like health committee which responsible in medical seek or attention.

They are also trained on how to handle livestock and gardening in which can supplement their
needing. And they also have savings program. These preparations of the community makes them
more prepared, secured and assured when disaster will come again. Being a student nurse we should
learn on how to organize and manage a simple organization or community. Your community can
mean more than just your household or neighbors. Even city, state, and federal government agencies
come together to form a disaster relief community. Several federal and state agencies that advocate
for community preparedness and response. Access to safe, affordable housing, clean environments,
