Do we need to ban fast-food restaurants?

Yael Rodrigo Torres Nieto

Fast food restaurants have been the best invention of the century for students and Godinez,
it is a way to get food almost instantly and there is a great variety of them, from tacos to
hamburgers. However, it has its drawbacks, but I will talk about that later.

To begin with, we must recognize that this type of food is easily accessible, relatively
inexpensive and is found in almost all places. Now the problem is that since it is a food that
is prepared on the spot, it tends to have high levels of saturated fats, sugars, carbohydrates
and in many cases conservative, all of this causes the obesity rate to increase considerably.

A second disadvantage, very much related to the first, is that most parents prefer to feed
their children fast food, as I mentioned before, it is very easy to obtain, this causes the child
to not be properly nourished, making the children gain weight, but also forming a habit of
consuming the food more frequently, making them not lead a healthy life.

Not everything is bad, I already said that there is a great variety of fast food, which not
only consists of unhealthy food, but there are also establishments that sell balanced food,
for example, salads, fruit salads. Or they sell complete meals, which contain all the food
groups in order to get the necessary nutrients.

Finally, banning fast food restaurants will not bring down the obesity rates completely. In
Mexico, laws have been implemented to decrease the consumption of these foods, but that
is not enough. Banning fast food restaurants will only make people look for alternatives to
obtain the food.

In conclusion, even if fast food restaurants are banned, this problem will never end. What I
propose is to control the consumption of these products, establishing a maximum number
which can be consumed. Also, as it is already planned, the sale of fast food should be
restricted to people under 18 years of age. I believe that with this many people will not lose
their jobs, and it will be possible, if not to solve, at least to control this great problem.
