About This Book

This document describes the restrictions, known issues, and workarounds of
the following ArchestrA® platform software packages:
• Substation Automation Configuration software.

Purpose
The purpose of these release notes is to document restrictions, known issues
and potential workarounds, and user notes for the Substation Automation
Configuration software.
Restrictions are limitations put in place temporarily in order to address
incomplete functionality or features in the product which, if not understood,
could potentially allow the user to access or generate corrupt data, or could
result in abnormal installation or termination of the software component.
Similar to restrictions, known issues represent temporary deficiencies in the
product. Frequently, these types of issues result from incomplete functionality
of the product.
Workarounds provide a means of bypassing a known issue, enabling the user to
perform an operation that would otherwise be prohibited or difficult to execute.
User notes contain information about how the product functions and other
helpful hints that may not be evident from the product’s associated user guide.

for each Substation Automation Configuration software component being
installed. These include, but are not limited to:
• Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.5
• Microsoft SQL Server® 2005 Service Pack 2
• Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Service Pack2

IDE 3.1 SP3

Note If the user is installing the Substation Automation Configuration -

Advanced product, then MS Visio® 2003 is also a prerequisite.

1.2 Installation Guidelines

Restrictions, Known Issues

and Workarounds

This chapter discusses the known issues, and restrictions within the Substation
Automation Configuration software along with the available workarounds, if
any.

Contents
• Restrictions
• Known Issues and Workarounds
• Limitations

2.1 Restrictions
There are no restrictions when running the Substation Automation
Configuration Software.

2.2 Known Issues and Workarounds

This section presents a list of known issues within the Substation Automation
Configuration software. If available, a workaround allowing the user to bypass
the issue is documented as well.

2.2.1 Visibility Issues

Object Menu Disabled

Issue: The Object Menu for Substation and Device Objects is not enabled.
Description: When the editor window of the device or substation object is closed, the object
instance appears to be selected (highlighted) and if user activates the object
pull-down menu, the actions for generating ICD/CID/SCD files are not
available.
Workaround: The user must first click the object instance and then use the Object menu.

2.3 Limitations

from an SCD file can be imported.

Issues Resolved

The following issues have been resolved for this release:

1. The substation object editor’s SLD composer cannot connect a terminal to
a busbar, if the busbar is renamed.
2. The substation object editor fails to import SLD from its own generated
SCD/SSD file. It complains about schema error although such file is
actually schematically valid.
3. The substation object editor does not prevent user assigning multiple
LNode to the same IED’s LN. Hence uniqueness rule may be violated and
leads to the generation of invalid SSD/SCD file.
4. The substation object editor creates default LNode with invalid attribute
values when it adds a conducting-equipment (e.g. circuit breaker, etc). The
lnInst attribute is unnecessary and wrongly fixed to “1”
5. The substation object editor’s SLD composer does not remember the
position of the component's label in relative to the position of its
component. Hence, if the component is moved, its label may lose its
previous relative position from the component.
