OBJECTIVES
At the end of this module, you as a learner are expected to:
Analyzes musical elements and processes of Philippine music.
Correlates Philippine music to Philippine culture.
Performs examples of Philippine music, alone and with others, in appropriate tone, pitch, rhythm, expression,
and style.
Analyzes an example of Philippine music from the Highlands and Lowlands of Luzon, and describes how the
musical elements are used.
Explains the distinguishing characteristics of representative Philippine music from the Highlands and
Lowlands of Luzon, in relation to history and culture of the area.
Analyzes the relationship of functions of Philippine music from the Highlands and Lowlands of Luzon, to the
lives of the people.
Sings accurately representative songs from the Highlands and Lowlands of Luzon, alone and / or with
others.
Performs on available instruments music from the Highlands and Lowlands of Luzon, alone and / or with
others.
Improvises simple rhythmic / harmonic accompaniments to selected Philippine music from the Highlands
and Lowlands of Luzon.
Explores ways of producing sounds on a variety of sources that would simulate the instruments being
studied.
Evaluates music and music performances by applying knowledge of musical elements and style.

Music in High Land of Luzon VOCAL - FOLKSONG
Luzon is composed of vocal and instrumental music, which varies in every province of Luzon. The
highland and lowland folks are composed mostly of farmers, fishermen, artisans, vendors traders and common
people.
VOCAL MUSIC Genre performed by one or more singers with or without instrumental
accompaniment where singing provides the main focus.
FOLK SONG Songs written by the folk and are sung to accompany daily activities such as
farming, fishing and putting the baby to sleep. They are often lively and fast and its lyrics tells about
aspects of daily life.Sang during fiestas and gatherings.

Pamulinawen – An Ilocano folk song about Ilocano woman, named Pamulinawen to whom the
man is singing.

2. KAPAMPANGAN
Atin Cu Pung Singsing – a popular Kapampangan folk song.The song is about a missing
heirloom piece, a ring with a single gem, it expresses the great sentimental value placed by Filipinos
on inherited objects from parents.

3. TAGALOG
Bahay Kubo – a traditional Filipino folk song - tells of a small hut with a variety of vegetables
surrounding it.

Sarung Banggi – a popular Bicolano song written by Potenciano B. Gregorio Sr. in Albay more
than a hundred years ago.
