Hackman was that he believes teams are likely to performance more effectively
in a smaller group with regular members so that the group can have a better
understanding of the different strengths and weaknesses of each members. As a
result, this will help in the process of saving more time for other works such as
checking for errors as well as preparing the team for a new task. Another
significant element that Hackman has identified is that every working groups
need to have a leader with the strong character who is capable to motivate every
member to finish the task.

Answer: Another essential condition that is necessary for a more efficient

working group is that there should be a well-prepare assessment process where
every team member can assess and give feedback to other group member so that

way to break down the overall group goal into sub-tasks so individual
accountability can be enhanced?

Answer: In order to lead a new team of newly hired employees, I will first have to
know and understand to strengths and weaknesses of my group member so that
I can place them on a group and an individual tasks that they can be the most
effective as well as to minimize potential issues. Another important justification
of why understanding the pros and cons of the new employees is because I can
also know which area that they need improve so that the potential of the new
employees are not being wasted as they can be valuable human resources for the
company in the future.

1 What is the difference between trait and behaviour theories of

leadership? are the theories valid?
Leadership theories are the best means for defining the characteristics and
attributes of an effective leader. Trait and Behavioural theory are two types of
leadership theories that are contrary to each other. Trait theory also called as the
“virtue theory” emphasizes on the belief that leaders are born; they possess the
specific virtues of an effective leader right from birth. According to this theory
leader from birth have specific innate qualities that differentiate them from
followers, thus, they do not perform work execution rather prefer to take
control. Behavioural theory on the other hand is more “democratic” kind of
theory. They are against “inborn leaders” and emphasize that leadership
qualities can be developed by training.
These theories are valid and can be seen in use by organisations in everyday life.
Some organisations are run on basis of succession or make extensive search for
the right leader and other train their employees to take up leadership positions.
2 How can organisations select and develop effective leaders? provide 1
example.

With an effective recruitment and selection plan and a talent management

system in place organisations can select and develop effective leaders. There
should be proper recruitment process in place to source leadership talent,
proper assessments to evaluate the leadership qualities of employees, well-
defined performance management system to regularly monitor employee
performance, succession planning to avoid any gaps, career planning so that
employee can develop leadership vision and development goals and proper
training and development to meet their learning needs. Employees should be
encouraged to share their ideas, take risk and ownership of task assigned to
them. Allan Mulally CEO Ford Motor Company is best example as he himself
never engineered or built any cars but was the person responsible for saving
Ford from losing its existence.

products. House hold cleansers, hard drives with greater memory storage,
mini laptops etc. All these products just display performance improvements
when compared to already existing products. There improvements are used as
competitive advantage by the company to survive in the dynamic market.

Did you welcome these innovations because they were Beneficial’s, or
did you have cause to complain?

Disruptive innovation is one which leads to creation of a new market and value
network by completely displacing the already existing product or technology.
These innovations either add comfort to customer’s life or are available at very
cheap prices, thus make life better. Some examples of disruptive innovation are
Smartphone, Wikipedia, LCD, Digital electronic devices and Ultrasound. All these
are examples of disruptive innovation that are welcomed by customers because
