GOAL
-At the end of the grammar workshop, SS will have successfully mastered the uses of different modal verbs.

OBJECTIVES
-To recognize the modal verbs used to express possibility/probability (might/may/could/must)
COMMUNICATIVE OBJECTIVES -To recognize the modal verbs used to express obligation/necessity (must/have to/need to)
AND LINGUISTIC PORPUSE -To recognize the modal verbs used to express permission/prohibition (may/can/can’t/must not)
-To recognize the modal verbs used to express suggestion (should/can/ought to)

TIME LINE / SESSION LESSON STAGES
MANAGEMENT
1. LEAD-IN
-T is to introduce the topic by showing some pictures of places/plans/signs for SS to use modal verbs. The aim of this exercise
is to check SS’ knowledge about the topic (10 mins.)
-T is to draw a diagram on the board with four categories: possibility/probability; obligation/necessity;
permission/prohibition; suggestion. SS are to complete the diagram with the modal verbs they think that correspond to each
category (10 mins.)

2. LESSON CORE
-T is to give a grammar worksheet to SS related to modal verbs. If there is a considerable number of SS, T will ask them to
work in pairs. Once they finish, T and SS check the answers (20 mins.)

3. CONSOLIDATION
-SS are to play the “modal board”. It consists of moving spaces with a dice. In each space there is a specific task involving
modals (“what should a tourist visit in Bogotá?”) so that SS take turns and advance. T will give a small prize to the winners.
