Workshop 3
Machining; CNC – Lathe – Process Sheet
Objectives:
1. Provide students the ability to lead/direct the technician during the machining process.
2. Identify centre lathe different parts.
3. Identify the different processes that can be carried out on the centre.
4. Prepare a process sheet for the required operations.
5. Estimate the specimen setting up, machining, and removing time.
6. Identify CNC different parts compared with conventional machine.
Methodology:
In this branch of workshop student will be given a rod, and it is required to machine this rod into the final
given configuration. Different parameters affect the machining process. Students will learn how to deal
with the software (different methods of programming GM codes and drafting), and will be asked to specify
the cutting speed and cutting tool feed rate. Students will also calculate the specimen setting up time of
machining, and removing time. At the end of the session each student will prepare a process sheet
describing the different stages of the machining process.
