"FOSTERING THE LOVE OF LEARNING"

RAY VISION
Every Chicago Public Schools student in every neighborhood
will be engaged in a rigorous, well-rounded program and will
graduate prepared for success in college, career and life.

RAY MISSION
The mission of Ray School is to provide a rich academic experience for
our culturally, racially, and socio-economically diverse student body.
Teachers and staff work collaboratively with parents to instill in our
students a life-long love of learning.
CPS Instructional Core
To educate for equity, the CPS Instructional Core centers
on identity, community, and relationships.

Students must experience core instruction that is

responsive to and sustaining of who they are and what
they bring, and empowers them to connect, to imagine, and
to act as ethical, critical actors that shape the world.

To accomplish this vision we must operate with

commitment to Continuous Learning to improve our ability
to enact this vision, and to continuously strengthen our
shared vision.

Learning Spaces
Please if possible create an effective remote learning place for our students
● Designate a study space. Ideally, a desk. If not, a table.
Preferably out of the bed.
● The first step in creating an effective space for remote learning is to find a
place that you can dedicate specifically to your child's school activities.
● Please Limit distractions.
● Be on-camera as much as possible.
● Please have your child dress appropriately. Routinely, get up and get
dressed for school. They are eventually returning to school :)
● Establish a routine, and stick with it.
Office Hours

Office will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. each attendance day. Teachers will use
this time to support student asynchronous learning. This might be through
chats, posting helpful videos, conferencing with parents, working with small
groups on Google Meet, etc.

STUDENTS SHOULD SCHEDULE A TIME in advance to guarantee we will be

able to help the day they need it. We will contact students via Google
Hangout in their email window at the scheduled time.

Bridge The Gap Mentoring

Our school is working with a program called Bridge the Gap. It is a program where
high school students from Jones will remotely mentor and/or tutor our kids (grades
1-8).

Here is a brief description of the program........ As we continue remote learning,

many students will struggle without their teachers to guide them and keep them on
task. Working parents may lack the time to supervise their children during the school
day. Bridge the Gap mentors will guide less self-sufficient elementary school students
through e-learning and offer tutoring if needed. We hope to close the education gap
that will inevitably widen as communities grapple with distance learning.

If you have any students you think would benefit from the Bridge the Gap program,
here is the form. Anyone who would like to sign up can.
