Why do you play your sport?

Knowing your why in sports
can help to provide motivation, a sense
of purpose, determination, & discipline
in addition to being a reminder of the
direction that you are headed.
Developing a why helps ensure that you Intrinsic Motivation
are making progress toward your goals
& avoiding setbacks when possible. Inherent enjoyment or
fulfillment from participating
in your sport or activity.

Integration Motivation
Participation in your sport or
activity comes from the
integration of your behavior
into your identity, but, you
may still lack a sense of Identification

enjoyment. Participation because you
know the value of an activity
and how it can help you
reach your long-term goals.

Introjected Motivation
Participating in your sport or
activity for the validation &
approval of others OR to
avoid punishment.
Extrinsic Motivation
Participating in your sport or
activity for external rewards
such as medals, trophies, or
money.
Amotivation
