Magnetic Field of a Bar Magnet

Analysis

This virtual laboratory experiment shows a virtual presentation on the effects of the

Magnetic field that is invisible to the human eye. In the interactive simulation, the arrows

represent the magnetic field surrounding around the magnet. In the “Magnetic Field

around a Bar Magnet”, the arrows mainly show the direction of the magnetic force which

outward from North pole and in to South pole of the magnet. Same concept goes with

the compass, the North pointer of the compass points towards the South Pole, and vice

versa.

In “Magnetic Force” Simulation, it shows the repulsion and attraction of the magnetic

force between two magnets, showing its magnetic field. The following observations are

made: (1) magnetic field lines form closed loop lines between North and South poles

(attraction), but between the same two poles, a line appears not connected (repulsion)

(2) Lines never cross with each other, (3) The density of the magnetic lines increases as

the distance increases from the poles, and (4) the magnetic lines are spread out as it

moves from an area of high permeability to an area of lower permeability. These

observations are what consists the properties of a magnetic field lines.

In “Magnetic Field of a Bar Magnet” Stimulation, shows a visible presentation of the

magnetic field by the use of iron powder/fillings. The arrangement of the iron fillings

shows the magnetic field that is invisible to the naked eye. As seen, iron fillings are

seen to the dense as it becomes closer to the pole, which signifies it has a stronger

magnetic field.
