EXTENSION The energy of food

6 Name: Date: Class:

Plants capture light energy from the

sun and they use it to make food in the
form of chemical energy. They are
probably the only living things which
can do this.
When animals or people eat plants, this
energy is captured by our bodies and
this allows us to live.
If we eat the meat of an animal we
absorb the energy that was in its body
which was previously obtained from
plants.
