The film explores the rise of social media and the damage it has cause to
society, focusing on its exploitation of its users for financial gain through surveillance
capitalism and data mining, how its design is meant to nurture an addiction, its use in
politics, its effect on mental health. Including the mental health of adolescents and rising
teen suicide rates, and its role in spreading conspiracy theories.
What can the three (3) branches of governments – the Executive, Legislative,
and Judicial branches, can do with regards to the issue on social media brought upon
humanity. The Philippines. In particular, is confronted and experiencing this social
dilemma the documentary is talking about.

Executive
Social Media is a platform that most of the people can access it anywhere in the
country. It helped the people connect to others like their long lost family members and
friends. However, it has a dark side especially on mental health and propaganda. It has
a huge impact in a Government like during Elections, and also the vulnerability of cyber-
attacks against other States.
The issues on social media has a huge impact to every country wherein the
platform is manipulating every generation on spending more time using any kinds if
social media platform just to increase their revenue without looking at the
consequences. The developer of these social medias are only looking on how to make
money and manipulate people using their supercomputers and algorithms.
The executive branch of the Philippines, or the President can shutdown these
social medias to protect its people from social media addiction, suicide, and even
teenage pregnancy because of the pornography that is very accessible to all.
Furthermore, cyber bullying is also rampant in the country which is so easy by being an
identity-theft to cover yourself from being caught. Cyberbullying is stronger than the
normal bullying which you can see the bully physically, unlike in cyber bullying you do
not know who’s behind the screen that can inflict mental damage to another.
The Executive has the authority or power to address this kind of problem by
shutting down or put regulations on Social medias for the betterment of the State due to
the disinformation spreading all over and for the betterment of the people to detach
them from addiction and be more productive.
Legislative
The Legislative branch of the government is charged with such powers as
making laws, levying and collecting taxes, and making financial appropriations.
Regarding the issues on social media, the Legislative branch can make a law that can
regulate, prohibit, or punish a certain person for using the social media in a wrongful
manner. Although the Philippines has a Cyber law but it needs more implications and
strict implementations like giving strict age requirement for the usage of social media to
protect the youth from seeing explicit content on social media that are not child-friendly.
Legislative branch should focus more on cyber activities since most of the
actions are running through the technology. Specific laws are very important nowadays
in this modern world.
“Judicial”
Judicial is belonging to the branch of government that is charged with trying all
the cases that involve other government and with the administration of justice within its
jurisdiction. The judicial department shall make clear decisions regarding issues on
social medias since there are only few jurisprudences about this kind of cases.
