Biophysics is a field that uses physics theories and methods to explain how biological

processes function. Biophysics has been crucial to understanding the dynamics of how the
molecules of life are formed. Scientists from many disciplines use their knowledge to investigate
and create new methods to explain how biology functions in life. Sports Medicine focuses on
helping people improve their athletic performance, recover from injuries and prevent future
injuries. Every feature of track and field running, blocks, throwing, and jumping incorporates
speed, acceleration, force, displacement, and angle, which are extremely important factors in
physics. Speed is how quickly an object moves and speed is an important factor on the track,
particularly for sprinters. The speed of the runner is determined by the distance traveled for each
stride and the number of limbs taken in a specified period of time.

Air resistance tends to be higher when the runner hits the maximum speed. As Usain Bolt
who has placed a hand through the open window of a moving car knows, even at residential
street speeds, wind power can be considerable. In addition to velocity, the other variables that
affect the air resistance of the sprinter include height, humidity and body shape and surface area.
