CELL ORGANELLES
(LESSON 3 – GENERAL BIOLOGY 1)

Activity #1: Describe Me

INSTRUCTION: Identify the similarities and differences of plant and animal cells by describing their structure
and function in this table. Use the lecture in the previous pages as your reference. In
answering this activity, you are encouraged to answer this base on your own understanding.

Guided Questions:

1. Why are there differences between plant and animal cells in terms of organelle structure?
 They are different from one another because some of the organelle are present from plant
cell and absent from animal cell and also absent from plant cell and present from animal
which we can easily define their difference from every aspects.

2. Is there any importance why organelles are different from each other? Support your answer.
 I think it is important to make distinction that animal and plant cells, the difference is that
plants cells can produce their own food to be used for energy, while animal cells must
take in food sources from their environment. Organelles tend to work with their
capabilities one can stand alone while the other one will rely to someone, organelles have
difference and function by its capability.

Activity #2: Think Deeply

INSTRUCTION: Compare the structures of a cell to your household. Generate an analogy from the different
organelles of the cell to your household (either
members of the family or any parts of the house) according to their functions.
ORGANELLE ANALOGY
(example) (example)
1. Vacuole (water storage of cell) 1. Water Tank/Drum (water storage)

1. Chloroplast ( can make their own food) 1. RICE COOKER

2. Cell Membrane ( to protect and provides strengths) 2. LOCKED DOOR KNOB
3.Nucleus ( control centre) 3. ELECTRICITY
4. Vacuole ( water storage of the cell) 4. PITCHER
5. Lysosomes ( contains various hydrolytic enzymes) 5. FOODS

Reflection:
You have learned that there are different organelles in the cell and each organelle have their own function and
that makes them different from each other. Given this knowledge, how can you apply unity in your household
considering that we have individual differences.

 Family members have different position and capabilities, just like from each organelles
have their own functions, respecting and accepting everyone’s opinion before making
decision will be the best way to solve misunderstanding in that way we can unite more
and became stronger because we have one another to rely on.
