GENERAL BIOLOGY 1 (MODULAR)
NAME: Noella Elliraine V. Matutina DATE: 08/16/21
GRADE & SECTION: 12-STEM3 TEACHER: Ms. Anne Robis

ACTIVITY 1
One of the most revolutionary tools used by Biologist in many discoveries and in carrying out research,
is the microscope. In this activity you will investigate the development of microscope and how it contributed
to the development of the modern cell theory.

A. Microscopy through the years. (10 points)

 Observe the 3 microscopes below.

 *Answer the following questions:

a. What are the observable developments in these 3 microscopes?
b. - These advancements resulted in significant increases in magnification, resolution, and
contrast. In comparison, van Leeuwenhoek's and his colleagues' very primitive
microscopes were considerably less powerful than even the most basic microscopes in
use today. In this part, we will look at the many types of microscopes available today
and the common applications for each.
c. How did these improvements contribute to the development of the Modern Cell Theory?
- It enabled the observation of cells. Because The discovery and refinement of the light
microscope verified Sir Robert Hooke's idea that creatures would be comprised of cells,
since scientists were able to detect cells in tissues placed under the microscope. Hooke
discovered the cell as a result of the creation of the microscope. He saw box-shaped
formations when gazing at cork, which he termed "cells" because they reminded him of
monastic cells, or chambers. This discovery paved the way for the creation of classical
cell theory.

B. The Modern Cell Theory (30 points)

Copy or cut 3 pictures that proves the postulates of the Modern Cell Theory. Paste them on the boxes
and discuss how a picture proves a particular postulate. Discussion should be at least 3 sentences long
and expressed in your own words.

Bacteria Cell-
Bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that live in the
environment. Because there is no nucleus or membrane-
bound organelles, the cell structure is simpler than that of
other animals. Instead, their control center, which houses
the genetic information, is housed in a single DNA loop. A
kind of cell that called bacteria cell is Prokaryotic cells
because these are fundamentally different from the
eukaryotic cells that make up other kinds of life. Prokaryotic
cells are distinguished by a more simpler architecture than
eukaryotic ones.

Animal Cell-
They are cells that belong to the same category as "animals,"
but they might be distinct in each one, each with its unique
purpose. Animal cells are the structural and functional building
blocks of all animal tissues and organs. It indicates that, in contrast
to prokaryotic cells, animal cells have membrane-bound
organelles floating in the cytoplasm and surrounded by a plasma
membrane. Also, Animal cell is responsible for all of the
body's functions, including the production and storage of energy,
the production of proteins, which are molecules that play roles in
metabolism, the transportation of other molecules, and the
replication of DNA.

Plant Cell-

Plant cells are eukaryotic cells, meaning they have a membrane-

bound nucleus. In contrast to prokaryotic cells, DNA in plant
cells is contained within a nucleus that is surrounded by a
membrane. Plant cells, in addition to a nucleus, include
additional membrane-bound organelles (small cellular
structures) that perform particular activities required for optimal
cellular activity. Organelles are responsible for a wide range of
functions, including the production of hormones and enzymes as
well as the supply of energy to a plant cell.
