COURSE GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
Course Goals:

This course aims to provide the basic understanding of a theory, its development and application to the etiology
of crime, and its use to understanding human, criminal, and deviant behaviors. It includes the historical evolution of
criminology, the different school of thoughts, the process of measuring crime, as it relates to criminological research,
the divisions and scope of criminology, and the justice system. This course also introduces Criminology as a
profession in the Philippines.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course, you are expected to:


1. Determine the historical account, evolution and development of criminology and the applied disciplines and field of
criminology;
2. Identify major criminological theories, explaining etiology of crime, criminal behavior, deviant behavior and human
behavior;
3. Determine the fundamental concepts of law, crime, criminology, criminal justice, deviance and delinquency;
4. Identify typologies of crime, criminology, criminal, offenders and process of measuring crimes;
5. Determine the essential concepts of victimization and victimology;
6. Determine and understand the concepts of punishment, sentencing and rehabilitation;
7. Understand the criminology profession and career paths of criminologists in the Philippines.

Grades will be based on a number of course requirements as indicated above as well as a combination of both online
and face-to-face learning activities.
