The Accountable Compatriot
Since the primary, we were taught to become a "makabansa" to promote, respect, and love
our nation. It's been then that I was so active and my patriotism was awakened. Being part of a
collectivist culture gives me a vibe of unity and concern as a citizen.
The Government provides some of our needs and protection and one way we can give help to
them is to become a good citizen. Let start with obeying the law, never did I thought of going against
the law; disobeying, disregarding, and neglected it because I grew up having strict parents that I was
trained to obey their rules otherwise I'll be getting a good and long sermon. Along with obedience is
respect, so when I decided to follow the laws it means I respected their authority. Through
cooperating community activities, actively participated in a youth organization, following
government protocols, and supporting their implementation and projects. I respected their
authorization because I believe it is the right thing to do. I am not blinded by those black propaganda
that has been killing and poisoning our system. I am so much aware that today's administration is
way better than before. Learning local issues is very helpful and serves as an eye-opener to me, and I
don't just easily agree I investigate and contrast the factuality and authenticity of the news I read so
that I won't be misled and misinformed. Being able to know the truth behind those defamations is one
of my biggest contributions as a citizen. I was once a student leader in my former school and I know
how it feels to rule a big society and being doubted by my subordinates. But despite those facts, I was
still able to serve them with all my heart and willingness. I stand up for their rights, become their
voice and a leader they needed and wanted. Also, respecting other nationalities is what I do dearly
since it shows and reflects who I am as a person and as a citizen. I believe it takes a good citizen to
respect other countries' citizens and I want to give importance to our diversity and uniqueness.
Those characters and values that I stated above show the love I have for my country. I don't
need to become a politician to serve my country and show my patriotism. I have my ways, I have my
responsibility of doing so. Through voting the right leaders, making good use of our resources,
paying our bills on time, and being a good student having a vision of holistic goods and a brighter
future.
