All deviations to be reported and recorded on register
Driving telescopic handler. Only trained, trained, experienced and appointed authorised
by DMO and Astrum operators are allowed to operate
machine. All operators to have a valid medical certificate with
no infirmity that is likely to interfere with the efficient discharge
of his duties as an operator. No operators allowed using cell
phones while operating any machinery. Traffic rules must
always be followed. Telehandler to adhere to speed limit,
signs and DMO road rules on site. The flagmen are to ensure
that the operator has visual contact with him at all times. This
is to ensure that there is direct communication between the

problems identified by the flagmen. When flagmen are
assisting an operator to reverse he is to ensure that there is a
safe distance between him and the machine. So that if he
falls he is not in the direct path of the machine.

Loading of materials with telescopic handler. Operator must lower the forks of the machine before driving
towards the material to prevent forks damaging the material.
Flagmen must ensure all other employees must stand clear of
the load. The Flagmen must also keep his distance when
directing the machine. No employees close when load is lifted
Flagmen are to secure load by means of tie-down straps with
tensioning device to ensure load is secured before load is
lifted. All material being loaded must not be longer then 4m
and if material is longer than 4m the truck must be used to
transport the material. This is to ensure there is sufficient
space on the road for other vehicles that are travelling in the
oncoming direction. Forks to be lowered as low as possible
before travelling with load.
Off loading of materials Obey all warnings devices and notices, access total load to
be lifted before lifting commences. Load must first be
lowered to ground level before the load is loosened to ensure
load does not fall.

Return to lay-down area and lock-out machine. Flagmen must direct the machine to reverse once the load is
placed on ground level to ensure no employees or material is
in the machines way. Flagmen must remain with the machine
at all times and the same steps as above mentioned must be
followed. Operator should switch off telehandler in designated
parking area and place stop blocks.
