Culture 

In this department we have many cultural aspects that are mixed with the  traditions from
the aboriginal towns that were inhabited with the Spanish  costumes.  
Crafts is one of the most important artistic expressions from Boyacá, The Art from Boyacá
is showed by pottery that is normally made of vegetal fibers  such as cotton and fique.  
In this department is also outstanding the craft use of the Tagua in some  municipalities
such as Chiquinquirá and Ráquira.

Turism

Tourism in Boyacá is one of the most attractive of the country because of its colonial style, and its
attractive natural landscapes are the best option to travel.
One of the most visited towns are Villa de Leyva and Chiquinquirá, these two towns are very well
known for their architecture and religious traditions. In Chiquinquirá is located The virgin of
Chiquinquirá who is known like the saint patron of all Colombians.

TYPICAL DISHES

 COCIDO BOYACENSE

This dish comes directly from the traditional Spanish ‘Olla Podrida’. It consists of cooking different
offals, “rellena” a variety of meats in a clay pot. The inhabitants of the region managed to adapt
this dish with the typical products that occur in this area of the country and make their own
version of this dish, which they called “Cocido Boyacense”.

AREPA BOYACENSE 
They originated in the municipality of Ventaquemada. This product was traditionally prepared by
our farmers with corn that they cultivated and ground. It has curd, a type of cheese that they
produced themselves. It was cooked in stone stoves where they cooked with firewood and
anything was left with a wonderful flavor.
