Project School and Home Advocacy for Reading Enhancement (SHARE)

Narrative Report

Reading is a vital skill in learning. This is the core motivation for the teachers of Siembre
High School to support and lead the Project SHARE reading intervention program to be able to
improve and/or advance the reading skills of the students of SHS.

To attain the very purpose of the project, a time table was followed. From the
conceptualization, orientations to teachers and parents, diagnostic test and screening, up to the
preparation of reading materials and the actual conduct of the program, the teachers had been
very supportive and cooperative.

Parents too were involved in this reading program. The school recognizes the essential
role of the home in developing the reading skills of their children. They were oriented of the
process on how the program will be implemented. Parents were also very supportive to the
efforts of the school. They were the partners at home in guiding and monitoring their child’s
work.

But in every new program that is being implemented, difficulties and challenges are
inevitable. There were also some areas to be improved about this intervention. One notable
difficulty in the implementation of the program was the overlapping schedules of teachers.
There were also times when students missed to attend the remediation schedules.

At the end, with the efforts given by the teachers and the parents, they were able to
help their children to somehow improve their reading skills, and were able to instill to them the
appreciation of the importance of reading.
