NARRATIVE REPORT

Launching of Catch-Up Fridays (Project DEAR)

Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 1, series 2024, Banadero High School held
the orientation and the initial phase of the Implementation of Catch-Up Fridays or the Drop
Everything and Read (DEAR) program on January 12, 2024. Said activity is in line with the
National Reading Program of Department of Education which aims to strengthen foundational,
social, and other skills necessary for the holistic development of learners.

To make its kick-off official, the learners and teachers were gathered in the
morning at the school covered court for the said orientation. English Coordinator, Mrs. Mary
Gayle A. Miranda started with the information dissemination by reading the memorandum and
the Joint Advisory where the details of the activity were emphasized. Having the information
with all those present, the learners proceeded to their respective classes with the assigned
subject teachers and volunteer facilitator, Ms. Leah Claire Inocencio, member of Sangguniang
Kabataan of Brgy. Banadero, Daraga, Albay. Reading materials were made ready by the
teachers for the smooth flow of the reading program. The allotted time for the Drop Everything
and Read Activity is 20-30 minutes for the initial phase, and to be continued on January 19 and
26, 2024, respectively. Soon after all the classes were inside the classroom, facilitators/subject
teachers started giving the preliminaries and the instructions to students relative to the
conduct of the activity. Reading materials were distributed to each learner.

After all the students finished reading, they were made to answer relevant
questions to help them build their comprehension skills. Learners manifested interest in the
activity as they found it fun and interesting as it helped them to be creative and imaginative,
leading to more enhanced reading abilities.
