To the screening committee,

I would like to introduce myself first, so you have a little glimpse about me. I am called
Gabrielisa Viola Ramón, but I prefer being my nickname Gabi, and I was born in Domi-
can Republic. When I was very little I travelled along with my mother and my older bro-
ther to Spain searching for a new opportunity at life. Since then I have been living here
specifically, in the province of Valencia. In this place we have met new people, very de-
ar to us, and thanks to now our family has grown even bigger than before. I can always
feel assured that whenever I have a problem, they would be there to support me, even if
we are thousands of miles apart.

From early, the structure of languages and how do they work had catch my attention and
for that reason, when I was studying ancient Greek and Latin, I discovered that I deeply
enjoyed translating texts. However, I believe that the decision which lead me to study
the degree of translation and interpretation was a journey I made three years ago to the
USA. While visiting my aunts at Rochester I had the opportunity of learning a little bit
more about the language in a course taught by native teachers. At that time, I truly under-
stood that language play a significant role in the process of social life. When I came back
I set my mind in learning as many languages I could so I would be able to connect with
people from all different places. In the University of Valencia currently I am studying
three idioms: English, German and Chinese. Asia is a part of the world, at least for us

Westerns, very appealing and opposed to our way of living. I get to know a little bit of
Taiwan because of dramas, places such as the skyscraper Taipei 101 is not unfamiliar to
me and I am eager to visit in person and check by myself if it is as tall as I imagined.
In Yuan Ze University I want to enroll in the department of foreign languages and applied
Linguistics, I am especially interested in your free course of Chinese lessons for foreign
students and Japanese courses since I am in the early stage of learning Chinese and to learn
a new idiom is really helpful the contact with native speakers. I hope that this opportunity
afforded to me will change me for the better as a person.
