Research Treatments

Water samples in the same amount will be collected for the conduct of the experiment.

Three different treatments will be applied to the samples namely T0 for the controlled variable,

T1 for the application of the leaves of the Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum S.) and T2 for

the application of the flower of the said plant. Overall, nine replicates will be used in this study

which constitutes to three replicates per treatment.

Research Instruments

The research instrument for this study involves tests and experimentations designed to

obtain data from the treatments. Specific test will be taken to determined the effectiveness of

Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum S.) as oil absorbent. For the oil sorption rate and capacity,

the time it takes to absorb oil and the total amount of oil absorbed will be measured. For the

saturation point, the acidity and basicity of the water sample will be measured using pH meter.

Mechanical strength seeks to know the durability of the plant to withstand various weather

condition. In testing for water sorption capacity, the quality of an oil absorbent to be hydrophobic

will be distinguished.
