Is Statue Of Unity Irrelevant?

Statue of Unity was built in order to tribute Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was India’s first Deputy Governor and Home
Minister. He was also known as Iron Man of India because of his strong decision making, constant principles and will to
work towards the United India. Building his statue is both relevant and irrelevant.

He was the dynamic leader of our country. Such a leader deserves a tribute. Also creating such a statue is like two birds
one stone. On one hand, it tributes such a great leader. And on the other hand, it serves the purpose of tourism. Like
Shahjahan buit Taj Mahal for his wife but not for the welfare of the country, but anyhow, it still serves a great purpose of
tourism and is counted in the list of The Seven Wonders of The World.

But, on the other hand, spending Rs. 2989 Crore on a statue is not worth. More than one lakh villagers lost their houses,
lands for the construction of this society. India right now faces more serious issues like unemployment, pollution, hunger,
defence requirements etc. The money could have been spend on these aspects which would have been more beneficial in
longer term rather than building a statue. Such an investment might have resulted in ameliorating the economy of our
nation.

It is important to take care of tourism, but not over the cost of destroying houses or neglecting many other crucial factors.
Government should take steps keeping all the major aspects in mind. Even though, such a leader deserves a tribute, it
could have been done in the balanced way.
