Presentation: Week 11 Weighted marks: 8
Prepare a technical report on any existing High Rise Building in the world and make an
oral presentation for 20 minutes. The name of the selected high rise building has to be
approved by Dr Ahmad Al-Yacouby on or before 16th October, 2020. Each group needs
to include the followings in their project:
Information about the high-rise building, the location, total number of floor, the
height of the building, the functions of the building, its global ranking based on the
global ranking of the tallest towers in the world.
The material used for the construction of the core structure, and discuss the
advantages of the materials used.
Provide details of the material properties used (compressive strength, tensile
strength, etc.), especially for the main structural elements.
Based on the design code of practices, discuss on the types of loads to be
considered during the design of the building.
Considering the loads shown in APPENDIX A, draw the share forces and
bending moment diagrams, and calculate the stresses at point A & B
shown on the section of the beam.
Considering a preliminary analysis was conducted, and the design engineer
provided the state of stress at a point on the tower as shown in APPENDIX B.
Calculate the followings based on the Moher’s circles:
The student’s grouping is attached. Each group is requested to appoint a leader and
send me his/her name along with the selected High Rise Building Details, i.e. Name,
location and type for final approval.
