MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES AT WORK

Currently, more organizations are recognizing the importance of human capital

development for the success and scope of the overall objectives.
They know that the performance of this resource drives better results, greater
productivity and collective growth, so it is essential to manage the skills that guarantee
effectiveness.
It must be clear that, despite being a joint effort, each member of the organization has
different capacities, knowledge and skills, which many authors have defined as
Multiple Intelligences, which, well used, become a link that complements the essence
of the organization.
That organization that focuses on the progress of human talent, has all the possibilities
to advance fully in achieving its goals.

WHAT ARE THE MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES?

Individuals in general, unlike what is worked in educational institutions, we have the

ability to develop certain specific skills, different and interdependent to those of other
people.

We are accustomed to that, in a formative way, education focuses on the development

of linguistic and logical-mathematical abilities. However, and as you may have noticed
over the years, not all people are competent for these intelligences. This is because
their mental abilities are focused on other areas and directing them to the
strengthening of a specific field is a waste for personal growth.

Howard Gardner, redefined in 1983, the concept of intelligence, observing more than
one characteristic in people to indicate their level of competitiveness. Concluding that
it is not possible to classify the potential of each person in positive or negative for this,
different types of intelligence are defined.

TYPES OF MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Gardner's theory has a solid foundation in the nature of the brain, which is divided into
8 different parts that result in each intelligence.

• Linguistics: Ability to use language effectively, orally or in writing.

•Mathematical logician: Ability of numerical, scientific, computer and logical

reasoning.

• Space: Ability to perceive and understand space accurately.

• Kinesthetic: Faculty of being able to express ideas and feelings throughout the body,
as well as physical skills management.

•Musical: Ability to perceive, transform and express themselves through musical

forms.

• Interpersonal: Ability to perceive and distinguish the moods, intentions, motivations

and feelings of other people.

• Intrapersonal: Self-knowledge of capabilities.

• Naturalist: Sensitivity and understanding of the environment. Skills to perceive the

relationships and distinctions that exist between objects and people.

It is worth mentioning that all people have each of these intelligences, to a greater and
lesser extent, which allows both social and labor development.

Watch the following video and prepare a summary of this:

TYPES OF MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

If knowledge management and intelligence of human talent is implemented in a

company, with the purpose of enhancing its individual capabilities, efficiency will
increase considerably not only individually, but also collectively, which translates into
better performance and results. favorable, which can go beyond the established
objectives.

Possibly not all intelligences are significant for the development of an organization, but
mostly (such as linguistics, interpersonal, intrapersonal, logical-mathematical and
spatial), they are a key starting point on the road to success.

In addition, promoting intelligence management systems is a strategic process for

leadership development. If you find the right staff with social, internal and
communication skills (interpersonal, intrapersonal and linguistic), by strengthening
your leadership you can participate in the human talent management processes.

We are also immersed in an era where developing these skills is available to everyone.
The e-learning platforms have allowed the learning management system to go beyond
the traditional, reinventing the way of teaching and learning that with the purpose of
favoring the capacities of the staff.

Virtual learning environments offer the opportunity to work in the area that is
necessary, providing focused training and structures at the required points of each
member.

People are enriched with a lot of intellectual skills, so they are a valuable resource for
any organization. If they are cultivated correctly, with the support of the right tools,
you can maximize human talent in any area, develop more qualified leaders at all
levels and exceed expectations of the objectives that have been set.

ACTIVITY 2
Take each of the different intelligences described by Gardner and exemplify how each
of them would be evidenced in the workplace. Example: Interpersonal intelligence: it
would be reflected in how the psychologist of an organization needs to have specific

skills to develop strategies focused on improving the quality of life of employees in a
company.

Activity 1
The theory of the multiple intelligences was created and elaborated by Howard
Gardner and his team, this theory states that anyone has different skills or abilities
which they are very good as well as in other that they are not good. That´s makes you
think there is not an intelligence, only skills.
Gardner identify and proposes 8 different types of intelligences that anyone must have
1 or more.
Linguistics
This take care of the part of communication with other, not only orally it is also in
writing, gestures, etc. This skill is used and useful for writers, actors, politicians,
journalists, teachers, etc.
Mathematical logician
As the name says this take care the part of capacity and the speed for the solution of
logical and mathematics problems. This skill is used and useful for economist,
counters, academics, engineers, etc.
Space
This take care of the part of observe the things around us from other perspective than
common one. This skill is used and useful for architects, artists, designers, adventurers,
etc.
Kinesthetic
This take care of the part of corporal and mortices abilities to express feeling by the
body
This skill is used and useful for athletes, athletes, actors, etc.
Musical
This take care of the part of music composition and interpretation, It´s very important
because all the communities and cultures has a type of music, This skill is used and
useful for musicians.
Intrapersonal

Kilómetro 7 Vía Siberia - Tenjo PBX: 742 54 53 - 312 379 60 31 secretaria@gcrb.edu.co www.gcrb.edu.co
This take care of the part of understand the feelings, emotions, and reflection of us.
Interpersonal
This take care of the part to detect and understand the circumstances and problems of
others.
Natural
This take care of the part of detect, differentiate and categorize aspects related to the
environment.

Activity 2
Linguistic intelligence could be represented in a teacher because he expresses an idea
to a group of people

Mathematical logician could be represented in a counter for all the calculations he has
to do

Space intelligent could be represented in a architect because he has to design in

spaces that are not yet

Kinesthetic could be represented in an athletic because he need to coordinate all the
body to win

Musical can be represented in a musician for represent the sound good

Natura can be represented in a biologist because he has to have that love with living
beings
