Asia

Asia is the world's largest continent and is found mainly within the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
You probably can name a bunch of different countries found on this continent, especially famous ones
like India and China come to mind. However, there are many more that you may have never heard of.

As a result of that, this lesson won't have much room for discussion about them but you will learn a few
interesting tidbits along the way. By the way, this lesson classifies nations as being a part of Asia based
on the way the United Nations delineates this topic. As a result, a gigantic omission from Asia is the
country of Russia, the largest country in the world with Moscow as its capital. While much of Russia lies
in what many regard as Asia, it is not listed as being part of this continent using the UN's classification
scheme.

Central Asia & Eastern Asia

Central Asia is a region that is easily remember as being comprised of countries that end in '-stan'. The
suffix of '-stan' roughly refers to 'country'. All of these countries were part of the former Soviet Union
before its dissolution in 1991. This part of Asia is composed of:

Astana, Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Eastern Asia includes some of the most technologically advanced and physically largest nations of Asia. It
is home to China, which is the world's most populous nation and one of the largest in size, allowing it to
have a large variety of geographical diversity. Other nations in the region such as Japan and South Korea
have developed economies and export many goods to the United States. The region of Eastern Asia
includes:

Beijing, China.

Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea).

Tokyo, Japan.
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Seoul, South Korea.

North Korea

Southern & South-Eastern Asia

Southern Asia includes nations that lie near the magnificent Himalayas, home to some of the highest
peaks on Earth. This region is home to India, which has the world's second largest population. This part
of Asia also includes the large Indian subcontinent and some island nation states. Countries lying in this
part of Asia are:

Kabul, Afghanistan.

Dhaka, Bangladesh

Thimphu, Bhutan.

New Delhi, India.

Tehran, Iran.

Male, Maldives

Kathmandu, Nepal.

Islamabad, Pakistan.

South-east Asia is comprised of countries located east of Southern Asia and south of Eastern Asia.
Included in these countries are heavily populated countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as
well as the world's only island city-state in Singapore. Many of these countries are known for their
