The intent of this specification is not to supersede API or AGMA Standards, but only to supplement, amend or limit them as required. 2, Exceptions or variations shown in the Project Specifications take precedence over requirements shown herein. 3, No vatiations from the Project Specifications and this specification are permitted unless approved in waiting by UOP Process Division. American Gear Manufacturers Association, AGMA Standard 420, Helical and Herringbone Gear Speed Reducers. 1 CONSTRUCTION AND DETAILS A. Gear Unite General 1. Gear reducers shall be single reduction where applicable. 2, Gear shafts shall be double ended if possible to permit reversal of gears. 8. Gear materials and heat treatment may be manufacturer's standard, but heat treating and hardening shall be done prior to eutting and finishing. 4. The gear mechanical efficiency shall not be less than 97% at rated load and speed. 5. Supply an oll cooler if necessary to develop the required thermal horsepower. Uctube cover cooles are not ‘acceptable in freezing climates. For such installations, supply a separate shell and tube type cooler that can be readily drained, Cooler tubes shall be 5/8" minimum O.D. x ##16 BWG inhibited admiralty if frec water is used for cooling ‘and aluminum brass with zine or magnesium sacrificial plates if salt water is used for cooling. 1. The AGMA service factor and thermal rating shall be based on the driver rated horsepower including any allowable overload. 8, Where specified, gear supplier shall furnish a bedplate of smnple size for mounting the driver and gear, Bed- plate shall also necommodate coupling guards. The gear supplier shall mount gear on bedplate in his shop. 9. The gear housing shall be provided with an air breather. B. Low Speed Gears 11, Gears shall be double helical or herringbone type except ingle helical gears are acceptable when employed in ‘conjunetion with antifrietion thrust bearings 2. The gear supplier shall furnish a completely machined low speed shaft coupling acceptable to the driven ‘equipment manufacturer, to prevent transmission of shock to the gear. One coupling hub shall be mounted ‘on the low speed shaft by the gear supplier, and the other shipped with the gear for field mounting. * ‘8, ‘The gear supplier shall supply a completely machined steel flexible coupling for the high speed shaft. One coupling hub shall be mounted on the high speed thaft by the gear supplier, and the other shipped with the ‘ear for field mounting. ©. High Speed Special Purpose Gears 11. Gears chall be of double helical or herringbone type. 2. The following data shall be included in supplier's proposal, in tabulated form, for each gear. 1, Horeepower rating, BHP. 3. ‘Thermal rating, BRP. ‘Cooling water required, USGPM. Lubsicating Oil specification, required quantity, USGPM and pressure PSIG. 5. For cold climates the gear supplier shall recommend any provisions required for eating of oil in the gear housing before starting. B. Any rejections moat by the inspector, based on inspection of tests, wil be final; however, his inspection hall in nno way release the supplier from guarantees as to materials, apparatus, workmanship and performance of the ‘equipment inspected by him. GUARANTEE ‘The supplier guarantees that the equipment furnished is free from fault in design, workmanship, and material and is of sufficient size and capacity, and is of proper materia to fulfil satisfactorily the operating conditions specified. Should any defect in design, material, workmanship or operating characteristics develop during the first year of operation, but not later than eighteen months after shipment from supplier's plant, the supplier agrees to make all necessary or desirable alterations, repairs, and replacements of defective equipment, free of charge, and shall pay ‘transportation involved to and from the user's plants which shall be limited to rail freight only. No allowance will bbe made for alterations or repairs made by others without written consent or approval of supplier. If the defect ot failure to function cannot be corrected, the supplier agrees to replace promptly, free of charge, said equipment or to remove the equipment and refund the full purchase price. In no case will the supplier be responsible for contin- ffent Liability. PATENT INFRINGEMENT Supplier shall defend any and all infringement suits in which the purchaser and/or UOP Inc. is made a defendant, alleging patent infringement on equipment purchased from supplier. Supplier shall pay all costs and expenses {incident to any sach litigation. It being further agreed and understood, however, that purchaser and/or UOP Inc. ‘shall have the right to be represented therein by counsel, of their own selection and paid by them.
