OBJECTIVE: Develop a method to evaluate the availability of medical equipment located in four critical care
areas of one Mexican Institute of Health (MIH): Intensive Care Unit (ICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU),
cardiovascular intensive care unit (CICU) and Surgery (Sx).

interpreted by means of three
concepts:

x4: Medical equipment number
• Stable [1> IC ≥ 0.5]: when the x5: Out of service hours to 38 medical
equipment is sufficient to meet RESULTS equipment

CONCLUSION: The clinical indicator developed evaluates whether the number of medical equipment in a
medical service is enough to meet the patients demand.
§ ICU: in all case, has more medical equipment (surplus) than its patients demand
§ NICU has a deficit of incubators, so it will be necessary to plan the acquisition of new equipment
§ CICU has sufficient (stable) ventilators to meet the demand of patients, until now
§ Surgery, all the electrosurgical units were in surplus
