Social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are beneficial to

students. Do you agree?
In the era of globalisation, technology became vital to our daily lives. We need technology in
today’s world in order to ease their burden and make our work move smoothly. It would be highly
unusual to find anyone between ages of thirteen to fifty without a gadget such as mobile phone,
computer or Internet access. Information and communications technology (ICT) is undeniably highly
visible and has had a profound impact on society especially students. One of the uses of ICT is social
networks that provide limitless interaction between each other. Various applications of social
network are used by students and teenagers to keep in touch with their family and peers and some
of them used it for entertainment .However, there are a few news about disadvantages of social
network to students. As we know, media and newspaper keep updating about online scammer and
cyber bully involving teenagers and students. Although it is true that social network have that
disadvantages, I still believe that it has greater positive impact towards. In my point of view,
students have opportunity to connect with people around them, gain knowledge and for
entertainment.

First and foremost, social networks provide to us unlimited connection to keep in touch with
our beloved family members and friends who lived far away from us. For example, we can stay
connected with family members via Skype, Whatsapp video call and Instagram and share our lives’
events through social media. Besides, social networks like Whatsapp, Facebook, and Twitter also a
good way to rekindle relationship with long last friends. We can track our long last friends which
some of whom they may not have seen for ages like friends in primary school or secondary school by
Facebook or Instagram. As an example, if we want to invite our friends to our events, we can just hit
them on their social media to let them know. Moreover, friendship circles have no boundaries and
can be widen by using social networks. The features in social media like chatting, video call and voice
note will connect people all around the world. With only on electronic devices and Internet
connection, we can interact and communicate with everyone without have to go their houses. Thus,
social networks can connect the whole world, making geographical separation and physical
boundaries insignificant and widening the friendship circle from Alaska to the islands of New
Zealand.

Another benefit of social networks to students is gaining knowledge. We all know that
students have to find information and do task asked by their teachers to complete their assignment.
Therefore, it is crucial to all of students to have social networks to get information. The information
also can be share to their friends and can follow others to get latest news. By sharing social
networks, students will keep updated with current topics within our country or overseas. Latest
information and news are very useful for students to write an essay so that their writing will be more
matured and knowledgeable. This will help them to score a high marks in their examination. Apart
from that, students can obtain information with no cost at all, all they need to do is just type what
they want to search and click on it. Then, numerous of findings on related search will come out.
Students can save their precious time and budget to go to library and take a grab. Students do not
have to spend hours browsing through pages of books or encyclopaedia to learn more about a field
of interest. Thanks to social networks today, our students become more knowledgeable about what
is happening around them ad have greater access to all sorts of information about the world.

Last but not least, students can use social networks for their entertainment. They can chit-
chat with friends and family using Wechat and Messenger. Not only that, funny photos and jokes can
be share with their friend. In order to reduce their stress and burden from schoolwork, they can
enjoy themselves by downloading songs and movies from social media. For example, they can get
the latest movie from Telegram that have a lot of movies channel in various genres such as romance,
horror, thriller or fantasy. This application is very suitable for students to reduce boredom or to treat
themselves after hours of school. They do not have to line up at the cinema counter to buy tickets to
watch movies but they can search any h movie they want in the channel. Thus, social media is a good
and cheap way to unwind and relax from stress. Next, video games also offered in Facebook to make
the user enjoy their services. Students can spend their time by playing educational games and
quizzes from social media with their peers. Besides fun and enjoyable, they can also learn a new
things or vocabulary from the video games or movies. For example, game named Cooking Master
that available on Facebook teaches the layer to keep alert and punctual. This can be applied by the
player in their daily lives especially in their studies. Therefore, social media not only provided us
information and keep us connected but it is also a good alternative to entertain students and clear
their minds.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that social media are beneficial to students with all of the
advantages above. However, it also has the dark side that the students should avoid from being
trapped. As an example, social networks are reported on disseminating wrong information, rumours
and unfounded theories. So, as long as the students use it in a correct way, it will give positive effect
to them. They be careful and know how to use the social networks wisely.
