membranes of cardiac
Brand Name: and arterial muscle cells;
Norvasc inhibition of
transmembrane calcium
Classification: flow results in the
 Antihypertensive depression of impulse
 Calcium channel formation in a specialized
blocker cardiac pacemaker cells,
 Antianginal in slowing the velocity of
conduction of the cardiac
Dosage: impulse, in the
5g OD depression of myocardial
contractility, and in the
dilation of coronary
arteries and arterioles
and peripheral arterioles ;
these effects lead to
decreased cardiac work,
decreased cardiac oxygen
consumption, and
patients with vasospastic
(Prinzmetals’s) angina,
increase delivery of
oxygen to cardiac cells.

 Angina pectoris  Contraindicated  CNS: Dizziness, light- Assessment
due to coronary with allergy to headedness, * History: Allergy to amlodipine, impaired
artery spasm amlodipine, headache, asthenia, hepatic or renal function, sick sinus
(Prinzmetal’s impaired hepatic or fatigue, lethargy syndrome, heart block, lactation, CHF
variant angina) renal function, sick  CV: Peripheral * Physical: Skin lesions, color, edema; P, BP,
 Chronic stable sinus syndrome, edema, arrhythmias baseline ECG, peripheral perfusion,
angina, alone or in heart block (second  Dermatologic: Flushi auscultation; R, adventitious sounds; liver
combination with or third degree), ng, rash evaluation, GI normal output; liver and renal
other agents lactation.  GI: Nausea, abdomi function tests, urinalysis
 Essential  Use cautiously with nal discomfort
hypertension, CHF, pregnancy. Interventions:
alone or in Monitor patient carefully (BP, cardiac rhythm,
