Subject: Technical Report for Burnt Motor

Location: Emicool Plant 7, Chiller#1, Compressor A

Dear Sir,

With reference to the above-mentioned subject, kindly find our report as given below:

Initial Findings:

During the site visit and while our team was performing maintenance for the other chiller, an
incident of electrical trip in the switch gear associated with high electrical noise happened in
Chiller#1.
With an immediate action, our team checked the chiller and found burning marks on the
main board and an alarm appeared on the display module showing a starter panel abnormal.

We had performed motor insulation test (meggering test) and we found that the motor of
compressor A is grounded.
We also noticed that the no of starts/stops for the compressors are quite high.

History:

The motor in the chiller#1 was running with normal parameters and in good condition.

Most expected reason of failure:

the most expected reason of the failure could be one of the followings:
- Switch gear.
- power supply quality.
- Excessive number of starts/stops.
More details about the nature of the expected reason of the failure will be known after
tearing down of the machine.

Recommendation:

- Inspect of the switch gear panel and advise on the required repairs.
- Replace of the motor as the associated failure is related to the core of the motor.
- Dismantle of the mechanical compressor and check the condition.
- We recommend you to check on the high number of starts/stops could be related to
(load fluctuation or network).
