FOREVER WITCHES By Estrella D.

Alfon

Characters:
Amelia: silly, sweet youngest sister of Anastasia and Aurelia, 35 [AMY]
Anastasia: charming spinster of 40 [ANNIE]
Aurelia: older sister of Anastasia and Amelia , 45
Sabrina: Adopted niece, young girl, 17
Julio: Sabrina’s suitor, 20.
Loretta: young woman, goddaughter of Aurelia 21.
===============================================================================
Scene ONE:
A province, not too far away from a sophisticated city. Anastasia wears her usual flowing dress, Amelia with her comfortable
skirts and cardigans and Aurelia wore her dark, long-sleeved dress with a veil. Aurelia actually eldest looks younger than both
her sisters. The three of them (including Sabrina) lives peacefully in the small and simple house.
Our play opens on an early morning. The living room is simple. The sisters are in the room, Amelia with her embroidery,
Aurelia enters from the left part of the room while Anastasia dances in a tune of a radio at the living room.

Scene 1: The Dream [sounds of cat meowing and howling as it was driven out of the house]
Aurelia: Get out!! Get out you mangy cat! Leave the house. Go! (look at Ana) That cat smells of my shampoo. You
used my shampoo on her again, Annie?
Annie: So she can attract that Tom in the next house. We are all Old Maids. Let Cat at least have her fun.
Amelia: Then in three months we’ll have many more kittens to give away.
Annie: At least the cat is having what we don’t.
Aurelia: Anastasia! The things that you say!
Annie: What? I’m just saying. What’s wrong with a little something “something”? [Winks]
(Loud knocking on door upstage. Loud and insistent)
Aurelia: Goodness! Lord above who is making such a racket at this early hour?
Amelia: Who is it? Who can it be? Anastasia go take a look before they break that door down!
(Annie spins <dance> into the door and open it. Enter Julio, in a sando and tight trousers. As he comes in, Amelia turned
the radio off and offers a seat.)
Annie: Oh my, my look at what the cat dragged in this morning! Look girls! A handsome guest came to visit!
Amelia: (To Julio sounding faintly scandalized) Dear boy, is that an undershirt?
Aurelia: Young Man, did you actually go out in public without being properly dressed?
Julio: No Tia Aurelia. This is a captain’s shirt. Cool isn’t? It’s the latest fashion in the city.
Annie: Is that the fashion? How fabulous! It looks definitely cool. I’ll definitely buy one.
Aurelia: Don’t you dare Anastasia! To think of wearing such a thing in public, I forbid you to do so!
Amelia: Anastasia don’t bait Ate Aurelia so. You know she will never allow us such loose behavior and wearing
something like this—well, you’d look half-naked my dear!
Annie: Here we are again! This is why people are calling us Old Maids sisters! It’s just fashion—what’s the harm in
following what is new?
Julio: My darling girlfriends, having an argument? No, no, no, no. I will kill anybody who calls you Old Maids!
Career girls, bachelor girls, yes. The prettiest girls this side of our fair town, yes! But never that other name!
Amelia: Oh you flatterer! You should be ashamed bantering with women old enough to be your mother!
Julio: Mother? Where? All I see are three lovely ladies who could be mistaken for my younger sisters. Besides, it’s
not flattery when it’s true dear lady. (Wait 3 sec.) By the way, where is Sabrina?
Annie: Ah! The horror! The truth is finally out! Here I was thinking that you came for us! It is Sabrina after all that
you’re truly after!!! You faithless and fickle man! I’ll never talk to you again!
Julio: Tia Annie, you are as bad as your niece! Teasing my poor heart!
Amelia: Annie, do stop playing with the boy.
Julio: See! Only Tia Amy here is kind and nice.
Aurelia: Is that so young man? So what am I then? The wicked one?
Julio: Oh no no! Never! Ah, but this young man dares not pass judgment on my dearest, most fair Tia Aurelia—I
don’t think anyone has the courage to do that.
Aurelia: You cheeky boy.
Julio: Come now, my lovelies, can you tell me where Sabrina is?
Annie: Sleeping! It is not yet noon, you know. She is having her beauty sleep.
Julio: But she said we are going to the beach today. We are going to my father’s speedboat. She said you’d prepare
the food. The sun is getting hotter. It will burn us if we don’t go now.
Amelia: She didn’t say anything to us, but I’ll make some sandwiches.
Aurelia: That girl, really now. Anastasia, better wake that lazy one. (Exits to the left curtain)

(Sabrina peeps in, curtain moves. Her presence can be seen by the audience but not by Julio. Then when Julio went close to
the curtain in the left, Amelia saw Sabrina already, so she holds Julio back. Preventing him from seeing Sabrina)

Aurelia: Don’t go in there, young man. I’ll go wake Sabrina myself. Just stay put here.
Amelia: Are you sure she said yes? I’m excited to go to the beach today.
Julio: Wow, I bet this would be fun. (smiling)
Amelia: Hopefully. [Goes in to the other room]
Sabrina: (enter) Hello, Good morning. What brings you here so early?
Julio: Wha…wha…WHAT!? We are going to the beach today. You said to me yesterday. (surprised, confuse)
Sabrina: Yes, last night I said yes. But today I say no. I am not going on any picnic.
Julio: But your aunts already said yes.
Sabrina: Then you go with them!
Julio: But why not? You said you’re going to teach me how to swim, and I will teach you how to dive.
Sabrina: I don’t want to learn anymore! Go away!
Julio: Go—what in the world is wrong with you today? What’s the matter? What did I do wrong?
Sabrina: Nothing. But you see I dreamed… I dreamed you were paying so much attention to some other girls, I was
in the water, drowning, and you never even looked at me. Tsche!
Julio: But that was only a dream!
Sabrina: I’d have you know that when I dream, it looks very real.
Julio: It wasn’t real. Sabrina be reasonable! You can’t argue with me over a dream!
Sabrina: You were flirting with the other girls! You let me drown in that sea because you were too busy flirting!
Julio: (facepalm) Naku! Sabrina, I can’t get over it. Just…just a dream and you make me feel so guilty already.
Sabrina: (not looking at him, while HE <Julio> is standing by with exasperation) Dreams are premonitions of what
will happen in real life. It is a warning. So please go now. I won’t come with you! (enters the sisters from the
other room. They hem the couple in between them. The audience hears the cat meowing in the background
Aurelia: What is happening here? I’ve heard voices being raised.
Annie: Are you quarreling? Is this the infamous lover’s quarrel? Oooh, how romantic! Show me more!
Aurelia: Anastasia do be quiet! Control yourself!
Amelia: Aren’t we going to the beach today?
Sabrina: You are all going, but not me. I will stay home. That sea might kill me.
Julio: (Clutching at the two in aunts in appeal) She dreamed… she dreamed... (sputtering, pointing at Sabrina) Just
a dream and she won’t go with us anymore! (the cat run at the side of Julio. Julio got frighten and then
stumbles and fell at the ground)
Sabrina: Ha! Good for you. You’re such a brat!
Julio: (standing up) Me? A brat? If I’m a brat what would that make you?
Sabrina: How dare you, you—you bully!
Julio: You have no right calling me a bully when you’re being so unreasonable yourself! Well then, if you don’t
want to come then don’t! Tia Aurelia, Tia Annie, Tia Amy come on, let’s go and enjoy ourselves. Let’s leave
this stubborn brat alone here.
Sabrina: YOU!!! Jerk!! (Exits at left curtain. The curtain shaking with the violence of her exit)
Aurelia: I’m afraid we can’t join you Julio. We simply cannot leave Sabrina all alone by herself. Thank you for being
so patient with us old ladies dear boy.
Amelia: But you can still take the sandwiches. Enjoy yourself and have a good time. (smile)
Julio: (Almost in tears) enjoy myself? Have a good time? (Proceed to exit. Then stopped for a second and stomped
the floor hard <one hit> and then proceeds outside)
Annie: Oh my! What a passionate boy! [Sighs longingly] What an interesting young man that Julio. Ah well!

Scene 2: Witchcraft
(Enter Sabrina)

Sabrina: Humph!! Imagine! The nerve of that guy! Really! What a –jerk!
Aurelia: Young lady, explain yourself. How can you do that to that poor boy?
Amelia: That poor guy is going out of his wits!
Annie: He almost broke our floor. I thought he would babble and bawl!
Sabrina: I said I had a dream that I had drown in our picnic, because he was paying too much attention to some other
girls that he let me drown! He didn’t even try to rescue me!
Amelia: Oh you poor child. Come, come, you sit, and listen little Miss Sabrina. (Sabrina sits down in the bench while
the cat sits beside her bench)
Annie: You see darling Sabrina, once upon a time, we, your Tia Aurelia, Tia Amelia and I were like you. The
Wicked Mondragon Sisters. That’s what they called us.
Amelia: We always believed ourselves to be special, you see. And that made things—well…we weren’t the kindest or
nicest back then. And oh…we were…so very special. We were gifted, beautiful and sought after.
Aurelia: We drove men wild, and broke their hearts into two. We were hard to get along. We were all spoiled and
proud. We felt the world owe us something because we were so very, very different from everyone else. We
had something no one else had and so we used it to get everything we ever wanted and it was never enough
to satisfy us.
Annie: But look at us now…We wasted our charms, our skills—our gifts on the desert air. That’s when we knew…
There will never be any men for us. No more men left whom we used to drive to despair. They married other
girls, less pretty than Ate Aurie, or Amy or I. We regretted it—oh how we regretted it but there is no going
back. We have lost our chances for love.
Amelia: So be careful, dear child. Sabrina, we beg you, don’t be difficult, lest you become…
Aurelia: Like us. We know what they say about us, you know. We’ve heard it all: Those snooty Mondragon girls,
with their noses in the air, now left like roses wilting, drying, and withering. No man beside them. No man
wanted them.
Sabrina: You are neither dried up nor withering, nor wilting, Titas. So don’t frighten me. Besides, Julio is not the only
fish in the sea!
Amelia: We used to say that too, of our suitors...
Aurelia: Until one day, they began to say it to us; we are not the only fish in the sea.
Annie: And we were not, indeed, were we? (bitter snicker, laughing at herself) And now, all we are, well you can
say we’re just dried smelly fishes now, not even worthy of a second glance.
Sabrina: But there are others like him, probably less fickle.
Annie: You think so?
Sabrina: I know so! He thinks I don’t know that he’s courting Loretta too. Imagine, she’s older than he is! I really
don’t know what’s going through his head!
Aurelia: I know that girl. The daughter of Francesca; the granddaughter of Olympia. She has a sister named Myrna.
But this Loretta is so wild, a complete opposite of her sister.
Amelia: Can she be prettier than our Sabrina? Can she dance the Tahitian? Can she sing?
Annie: She doesn’t dance the Tahitian nor sing. But they say she dances the ballroom dances. She drives her car mad
like pursuing a reluctant saint. She’s competition indeed!
Sabrina: Why do you know her, Tia Aurelia? Why do you all seem to know her? Is there something you know that I
don’t?
Amelia: Doesn’t she have black her, and brownish eyes? And very white skin? And tall… and well dressed?
Sabrina: Yes, yes! All that! Why do you seem to know her? I bet you like her than me.
Aurelia: I—we, stood godmother at her baptism. I used to know her father very well.
Sabrina: Tia Aurelia! You’re blushing! (speculating) Was her father your suitor? Did you love him? Did he want to
marry you?
Annie: He wanted to marry both of us. Amelia was a bit too young for him though so he paid her no mind.
Sabrina: What!?
Annie: Yes, he courted Aurie and I. We both said yes to him, not knowing he was courting both of us behind each
other’s back.
Amelia: That shameless man! He even tried to propose marriage for the two of them!
Aurelia: But then we found out that we were caught in one string. We both separated from him. Then after a year he
married Loretta’s mother. Annie: She abandoned him after a Loretta turned a year older and she went back to
her sweetheart in the states.
Aurelia: We stood godmother to Loretta after her mother left. We loved her like ours, we almost adopted her.
Amelia: But then you came along, we loved you more than anyone Sabrina.
Sabrina: And so?
Annie: And so… we both felt we weren’t the only fish in the sea. We kicked him away and set our hearts for other
fishes…
Aurelia: Only to find out they were all gone, we had you to play with. And before we knew it… time had gone so
quickly.
Amelia: And that is the story of our beautiful lives.
Sabrina: (suddenly intense) Do you love me Tia Aurelia, Tia Ana, Tia Amy?
Amelia: Child—why would you ask us this?
Sabrina: Will you give me something my heart fully desire? Will you give it to me if I ask for it?
Annie: Tell us what you want. If we can, we will give it to you.
Sabrina: I want you to teach me your powers! I want to be able to get even!
Amelia: (shocked) what powers are you talking about?
Aurelia: We don’t have any. And even though we have, we won’t give it to you. You cannot have powers just so you
can play with it!
Sabrina: Of course you have powers! Don’t you lie to me and don’t you dare treat me like a child! (Brought out an
small mirror) Look! You still look young! You aren’t even aging! (Sabrina stands up from the bench, holding
her aunts arm) Now you tell me you don’t have powers!
(The two aunts get themselves away from the grip of Sabrina’s arms)
Aurelia: We don’t know what you’re talking about—child! Let go of your Aunts this instance!
Sabrina: You’re selfish! (angry)
Amelia: Sabrina! Control yourself!
Sabrina: You are my only hope and then you let me down! Give me a weapon against people like Julio. So that I
won’t be so helpless against him!
Annie: But you don’t care for him! You said it yourself! You keep calling him a brat and a jerk! What do you want
with the boy!
Aurelia: I thought you want him to go away. No need to cling to him so when you don’t want him.
Sabrina: Of course I want him! I can’t sleep without thinking of him. I love him!
Amelia: Sabrina--! What are you saying child! You’re being hysterical! Calm down!
Sabrina: I am calm Tia! Please [kneels in front of her seated aunts] Please Tia! Give me the power that can make him
kneel to me. I want him to want me the most! I want him to make me his only world. Give me that power!
Please!
Aurelia: You are being hysterical, child! Do you know what you are asking? Do you even understand what it is that
you’re asking for?
Sabrina: Of course I do. But I know you won’t give me what I am asking for, because I am just an orphan you have
adopted. You don’t love me!
Amelia: O Sabrina, we have loved you like our own child. We nursed you when you are little.
Annie: We took care of you even though you became spoiled. That’s how much we love you. We have given you
everything darling, so don’t spout off words like being adopted and whatnot. We have never held that against
you and neither should you against us. We love you. That’s all there is to it.
Sabrina: And yet, you will deny me this—my heart’s greatest wish. But of course, this is my fate. Always begging for
pity and care. Always abandoned. I cannot blame you, for what am I to you? Nothing! Nothing at all!
(Amelia exits the left curtain, while Aurelia shakes her head and went to follow Amelia. Annie sat down and watched as
Sabrina throws herself into the bench sobbing. The cat appears and “meows” in the side of her bench. Annie seats besides
Sabrina, holding her hand. But Sabrina rigidly pulls her hand away. Still upset about not getting what she wanted)
Annie: You know why we don’t want to teach you anything? Because we are afraid… you see, whatever you
possess, you must pay for it in kind. You can’t get something for nothing, darling. That’s the law that
governs everything in our world.
Sabrina: Did you pay anything? What did you pay? Where do you learn? What can you do? (Intense)
Annie: Jesusmaria! So many questions! Yes we had to pay by staying single, spinsters forever. We learned from
familiars. Cat is a familiar. He talks to us at night. We can do many things. But one day, when you are very
young and very sick, we traded our powers for your health. We promised we will never practice again. I am
afraid if we practice again now, you might get sick again.
Sabrina: Oh please… I believe in you. Teach me everything you know. I am not afraid. (Annie moves about the room, she
locked the street door. Amelia comes out and sits Sabrina between herself and Annie)
Amelia: There has to be secrecy, never let anyone see us. (brings out a doll from her small bag) This your very own
special doll, when you want it to be anyone, just blow into its mouth and give it the name of the person you
want it to be.
Annie: No, don’t stick him with a pin. You’ll make him cry out, rub his eyes. Never stick a pin on into him.
Otherwise, he’ll seek revenge. (puts doll aside) Now, come here, I’ll tell you the things you need to know.
(Sabrina went to Annie. She whispers the instructions to Sabrina in her ears. Sabrina nodding her head
while she listen. Amelia does the same.)
Sabrina: (jumps in glee <3x>) I can’t wait to practice at him, thank you very much Tia Annie, Tia Amy! (smiling)
Annie: No practicing. Think what you’ll do, otherwise you will regret it. Now come here and repeat
the instructions I told you (Sabina goes to Andiya and whispers in her ears) (No dialogue for whispers, just silence.
To avoid unwanted mistakes. Aurelia came in via the left curtain, she came silently)
Amelia: Remember, those powers are dangerous; they are not guaranteed to make you happy. Nor unhappy neither.
(A lizard suddenly clicks its call from the ceiling.) Julio is coming with Loretta. (Sabrina face darkens,
angry)
Annie: Hold it girl, we are ladies not harpies. Think before you act.
Sabrina: (Julio knocks on the door, Sabrina manage to smile before opening the door) (Julio enters the scene with a
girl on his arms) Hi, have you gone to your picnic?
Julio: Not yet, I just think maybe you changed your mind and want to come with us. By the way this is Loretta.
Loretta, Sabrina. And these are the gorgeous Tia Aurelia, Tia Anastasia and Tia Amelia.
Aurelia: Never mind such formal introductions—we know Loretta. (hugs Loretta) Loretta is our godchild. (look at
Loretta) How’s your father? Do you hear anything from your mother?
Loretta: Father is in the south, he gone Muslim, if you can believe that. While my mother has just divorced from her
husband and married her third. They still send me pictures so I can still recognize them.
Aurelia: Lovely Lorry (felt sorry, pity) Never mind dear, you can always stay here.
Loretta: O, I can take care of myself, Ninang Aurelia. And when I get lonely, there are many people out there like
Julio to keep me company.
Sabrina: How long has that arm been in his? Aren’t you afraid you will graft yourself together?
Loretta: Oh, if were possible! I wouldn’t mind!
Sabrina: Neither would Julio, I am sure. He could be grafted my Merle too, or Trisha, or Dolores. Are they friends of
yours too?
Loretta: Not yet, but Julio told me about them. I am looking forward to meeting them.
Sabrina: You Phony! I just invented them! Caught you fibbing, didn’t I?
Loretta: O, but it only proves to Julio that I am understanding, grown up and reasonable. I would never be jealous to
anyone. Jealousy is meanness. Are you the jealous type?
Sabrina: Are you the jealous type? (angry) Of course! If I love a man, I will fight anyone who tries to claim him!
Loretta: Goodness, what a tiger! I am glad Julio does not belong to you. Or I’m afraid you’ll pull my eyes out.
(sarcastic laugh) Do you know how to swim?
Sabrina: No.
Loretta: I learned to swim because of Julio. He taught me patiently. He is the world’s patient instructor!
Annie: I don’t think Sabrina wants to swim right now. You see, we were giving Sabrina a tutoring on a special
course. So, you better go now.
Loretta: Well, tata! We are off! Let’s go Julio
Julio: I don’t think we can go to the beach today; the sun is too hot it will burn us. Why not you go home for now.
We’ll watch a movie later.
Loretta: What! You want me to go home? Alone!? You got me from home, you better bring me back there too.
Amelia: Loretta is right Julio, bring Loretta back home. And if you want, you can come back again to talk to Sabrina.
Julio: I have to talk to Sabrina, Loretta, please go home by yourself. It’s broad daylight anyway. (Loretta suddenly
slaps Julio then angrily went out of the scene) Tia Aurelia, Tia Annie, Tia Amy, tell Sabrina I need to talk
with her.
Sabrina: (springing suddenly near JULIO so that he jumps with surprise) what are you doing here? Go out and chase
your girl!
Julio: Sabrina, please listen to me; you are the only girl in my life. No one’s special to me but you.
Sabrina: You didn’t mean anything to me at all. So please get out of here!
Julio: Do you mean that? Really mean it? If so, then I’ll never ever gonna come back again! Even if it kills me!
Sabrina: Is that a promise? Cross your heart? You’ll never come back again? You’ll never darken this place with your
presence?
Julio: Sabrina, you know I don’t mean that. You know how much I love you. Why are you so mean to me anyway?
Sabrina: I am not mean to you – not yet. But if I am, you just need to step in that door and we’re both even. I won’t be mean to
you and you won’t bother me again! Agreed?

(Action Time!)
(Julio sits down at the bench <count 1.2.3.> then stands up again and walks back and forth. Sabrina seems irritated, went near
to the left curtain area <”near” not “go in”>. After that, Julio seems tired and just sat down on the bench. Noticeable to the
audience, <not to Julio>, Sabrina brought out the doll Andiya gave to her. She drew it from her bag in her shoulder. She then
plays with the doll. Sabrina pulled the doll’s right hand until it can’t extend anymore <Julio, obviously should follow, but down
forget to stand first> , then she made the doll’s head screw around <going right> until it can’t go any further. After that, she
pulled the doll’s left arm hard that Julio fell. Sabrina is awed and gleeful on what’s happening to Julio. She made the doll stand
up and finally let it fall on the ground <Julio fell unconscious>. Sabrina made the doll lie down with his hands over his chest.
After that Sabrina went to Julio and waved her hands in Julios eyes <Julio’s eyes closed>. When she saw he was unconscious,
Sabrina felt satisfied and steals away into the Left Curtain area <”Go in”>.)

(Enter Andiya, laughs behind her hand at the dazed look of Julio)
Annie: Julio, what’s wrong? (worried) You look pale! (takes out a dainty handkerchief, dabs at his forehead. Brings
Julio into the bench holding his hand)
Amelia: Whatever happened to you? Look! Goodness, even your fingernails are broken!
Julio: Because…because…Sabrina and I…had a quarrel (confused)
Aurelia: Come on, you had a quarrel and you broke your nails? Is she that violent? You’re a man aren’t you?
Julio: No…no... I don’t know! (look at fingernails) They’re broken, aren’t they?
Annie: (whips out a manicure from her pocket) Let me trim them Julio. How do you feel now? Would you like to
sleep in the sofa?
Julio: (nervous/pathetic) (Jump out of bench) No, No!! I mean I must go home! Thank you for everything. (Runs
to the exit, almost stumbling.)(Aurelia, Amelia and Annie laughing. <evil laugh>)
Annie: Sabrina! Sabrina! Come here quickly! (enters Sabrina)
Aurelia: That poor young man is out of his wits. Anyway, come on. Let’s change our clothes. It smells bad. Doing
such things always leaves such a stench.
(All three of them runs straight to the Left Curtain)

Scene 3: The consequence

(Amelia, Annie and Aurelia troops back into the living room. The cat is also there, playing with Sabrina. Sabrina is
whining and pacing)
Annie: Uh... Uh… that tone is starting to get familiar. What’s your problem now?
Sabrina: Take it back!
Annie: What!? After I get my rheumatism and asthma back? You don’t mean it…I mean look at me! I’m getting
wrinkles again!
Sabrina: I do… I really do. I don’t want to be like you anymore.
Amelia: Why? Haven’t you seen the results? You have punished Julio. She is now your completely willing slave. You
have exactly what you wished for.
Sabrina: Yes! And he bores me to tears! I want the old Julio back, not the possessive one!
Aurelia: But that’s what you wanted, you selfish child! You said you want him hear no other voice but you, to see no
other girls but you. To make him want you and only you. You want him to make YOU (emphasize YOU) ,
the center of his world.
Sabrina: Yes, that was before. (look at audience) But now I don’t want any of it. I don’t want Julio either.
Aurelia: I already have warned you that it will not guarantee your happiness. But you wouldn’t listen! You never
listen to the things we tell you.
Sabrina: I am really sorry for it (face Annie and Amelia). But is there any way I can get this knowledge out of me?
Amelia: We cannot reverse the process of knowledge, Sabrina. The road of knowledge is always forward, never
backward.
Sabrina: But does that mean can I never get another man other than Julio?! I’m going to be stuck with him?
Annie: You get what you paid for darling. Didn’t you read the fine print in the contract?
Sabrina: But I’m still so young and there are many men out there. I don’t want to be tied to just one man—especially a
provincial like Julio! What’s the use of magic if I can’t enjoy myself?
Aurelia: In time, with practice, you will learn new tricks like reading someone’s destiny. You will be able to read
minds, you can also tell fortunes. We will also allow you to do some rituals during the full moon. That should
be enough for you.
Sabrina: Perhaps, but what if it doesn’t? Does learning all that take a very long time to learn?
Annie: Not at all. But remember, you shall always pay a price.
Sabrina: Fine, fine. But Titas, let us first get Julio of my back.
Amelia: No dear, that’s your OWN problem. You made your own problem; you better fix it by yourself.
Aurelia: Besides, his life—his entire existence is now on your conscience. He’ll go crazy without you, and if he gets
another woman, she will never be happy. Remember what we told you before, think before you act.
Sabrina: Poor Julio, but he deserves it anyway. He’s such a crab, most likely a brat. (Julio knocks on the door, his
voice can be heard from behind the door <shouting, calling for Sabrina>.)
Annie: Sabrina, where’s the doll? (Sabrina gives the doll to Andiya)
Aurelia: Anastasia, you already have your gout twisting you in the morning, you cannot afford any more pain. Give
that doll back to that fickle-minded child and let her set things right. (Annie gives the doll back to Sabrina)
And you Sabrina, stop making that boy suffer, if you don’t want to pay a big price.
Sabrina: (Opens the door and let Julio come in. In her surprise, Julio tried to embrace Sabrina. Sabrina successfully
dodged Julio but she drops the doll on the floor that made Julio drop on the floor, too) Oh, what are you
doing? Have you come back just to continue sleeping? (Julio tried to reach Sabrina who is currently walking
backwards. Julio is now walking with his knees, Amelia helps Julio stand up)
Julio: Sabrina, will you marry me? (He tried to embrace <again> Sabrina but the cat barred his way. Sabrina
successfully dodged <again> Julio) My parents are both from the city, we can make you a beautiful gown on
our wedding. (desperate) Sabrina darling, come now, say yes. Please, I’ll give you everything! Just ask and
I’ll make sure you get it.
Annie: Why, is this a proposal Julio? You cannot just do it this way. You must bring your parents here.
Julio: (despairing) Oh Tia Annie! Tia Aurelia! Are you my torturers too? Help me, please! Tia Amy please help
me convince Sabrina that she should marry me!
Amelia: All right, all right, but just the same you must let your parents do the proper thing for you.
Aurelia: But if I were you Julio, I won’t rush things. You see, both of you are too young for such kind of relationship.
I don’t think Sabrina wants to get married anyway. Maybe you should wait for the right time, alright?
Sabrina: Of course not! I am still too young, WE are still too young for marriage! I don’t want to get married
yet Julio!
Julio: We are both old enough Sabrina, You’ll never find someone as much in love with you, as devoted to you.
Why should we wait?
Sabrina: Because I don’t think I love you. (Julio suddenly holds his breast like someone had wounded it. He just
flinched back and ran away madly.)
Julio: (shouting) I’ll kill myself! I’ll commit suicide! You will miss me when I’m gone!
Sabrina: Oh, wow! Do you think he’ll do that!?
Annie: Do what dear?
Sabrina: Commit Suicide!
Aurelia: For your own sake, he better not! You will become ugly when you cause pain, you will cry the same amount
of tears if you made someone cry. Tears, pain, anger, grief and envy. By now you must realize everything is
reciprocal. Suicide, that would be dark, evil, and it will come back to you.
Sabrina: (embracing her aunt) You frighten me! Stop it!
Amelia : But mark it well, Ate Aurelia speaks the truth. But don’t worry too much. It is very easy to assure your
future, Sabrina. Feed the hungry; clothe the naked, make people smile. You know what we mean.
Annie: Otherwise, if you only use your power for selfish ends, you’ll be called so many names, none of them
pleasant. Believe us darling, you don’t want to be labeled with the kind of dark, dirty reputation people like
us used to have.
Aurelia: Take courage from the fact that it is so easy to make people happy, rather than making them sad.
Sabrina: What have I done? [almost crying; Aunts gathered around her]
Amelia: [holding Sabrina’s hand] Poor child…did you know, when you were young, you made us so happy, just by
being you. I wish…sometimes I wish you never had to grow up and stayed the same sweet child you once
were…
Aurelia: We found ourselves so grateful that you came into our lives. You gave us someone to truly love. Someone to
devout our lives to…
Sabrina: You are so difficult to get along with. Sometimes you make me happy, but sometimes you made me sad.
Annie: Of course! We are not angels, you know. And besides, that’s what being family and being alive is all about.
Amelia: Angels! Of course not! We are witches, You, Ate Aurelia and I. And now, even our dear Sabrina is one.
Annie: We give ourselves away. In small and big ways…in subtle hints and blatant signs…We are witches. You
know us now and there will come a time when others will know you to be one too.
Sabrina: But are there many like us, Titas? Are there others out there like us?
Amelia: All around you, we are all around you, child. You will recognize us now. Now that you’ve become one of us.
Aurelia: Come now, Sabrina-child. Dry your tears and clean your face. It’s time to face the music and fix this little
problem of yours. You must make sure that young boy survives or else.
Sabrina: Or else what?
Annie: Well…I’ll just leave that to your imagination…but trust me…you don’t want that ending…its positively…
well—[creepy laughter echoes]
