Note: Use these aids at your own risk!

I built these design aids to help me grade 347, 444, and 446 exams. I would program
little bits and pieces of the analysis or design procedure, so that I could put in the
student's wrong moment, or wrong f'c, or whatever, and see if he had made any
further mistakes in his calculations.

The problem with this is that I often catch myself saving the errors back into the original spreadsheet!

Thus, use this with extreme care. Use it for checking your work only. If your work and the
spreadsheet don't agree, see why before you think you are wrong. You very likely are not.

For some reason, Cell B39 in the Tension Wide Flanges sheet will not save.
Results seem good, but it barfs every time you try and save the entire spreadsheet.

(Add dowels as shown below) 1) Fill in known values in cells B5 through B16.
Bearing strength of top of footing: 2) Enter any old guesses for the footing thickness "h" and the footing width "W"
A1 = 6.25 ft^2 in cells E15 and E20, or you can just leave the guesses from the last problem
A2 = 90.25 ft^2 in these cells - it doesn't really matter since they will change anyway.

Use at least 4 bars. Enter this width (or a larger practical value of your choice) into cell E20.
6) Unfortunately, this change will affect your "h" requirements in cells E9 and E11,
so you must check to see that your value for "h" in cell E15 is still acceptable.
If not, select a new larger desired practical value of "h" and re-enter it into cell E15.
7) Unfortunately, this will change your required "W" predicted in cell E19,
so you must check to see that your value of "W" in cell E20 is still acceptable.
If not, select a new desired practical value of "W" and re-enter it into cell E20.
8) Keep doing steps 6 and 7 until all values are above the required predictions.
9) Get required dowel area and select bars for dowels.

You may put the instantaneous center of rotation at any point you like. The resulting moments and forces (resisting vs. applied) just won't equal each other.
Calculations are good for any loads, and are based on Ru = 74k, and deltamax = 0.34" deformation for A325 3/4" bolts threaded to the head.
Adjust these final answers to account for (1)Your bolt's area and grade of steel, and (2) The reduced bolt capacity allowed by the LRFD code.
