I: What do you mean by Dung?

P1: Dung means generally applied to the noble families of a particular place or locality. In
ancient time each locality had its own leader, who looked after the village. The dung and
its family had a strong power over the community. They were the one who unified and
protected the people of Tagma village. They receive lots of respects from the villagers;
which shows that dung family were the powerful. The Dung were considered as a king to
its locality because it is believed that Dung were the descendent of god. And only the son
of Dung can become the Dung not the daughter. However the system of Dung have
vanished now. So, the ancient leader of Tagma village is known as tagma Dung.
P2: Dung means someone who rules the locality in olden days, is a leader of that
particular locality. But here it talks about the Tagma Dung, who was the leader of Tagma
village before. Dung have a very great origination which lead them to be powerful and
strong once. All the communities respect them a lot and they were consider the Great’ in
olden days. The Tagma village was govern and guided by the Dung. Everything has been
looked by the Dung. And the title of Dung is only given to the son of Dung family, not
the daughter. Actually Dung means the powerful leader who ruled the locality in olden
days. They were also known as the descendent of the god.
P3: Dung is an ancient leader who ruled and unified the particular locality. But here it’s
about Tagma Dung who is an ancient leader of Tagma village. Dung are also known as
descendent of the god and they were really powerful and strong. Everybody in the village
is under them nobody can go against them. Dung means it’s like a king to the locality as
everything is done by Dung. They are the one who unified the Tagma village as one.
I: What are the roles of Dung in the locality?
P1: The roles of Dung in the locality were;
I. Under the control of Dung, all the rituals and festivals which are needed to perform in the
locality were conducted and organized by the Dung family. Furthermore if there was any
problem in the Tagma village, the Dung family was responsible to solve the problem.
II. In olden days there was taxation system. In that case Dung was responsible to collect all
the taxes from the villagers and then pay the tax to dzong. The Dung had also a power to
punish people who fail to pay tax on time. So, in that way the Dung looked after the
taxation system of Tagma village.
III. The Dung family looked after the welfare of villagers and helped in the
unification/growth of Tagma village. And they brought peace and prosperity in the
locality.
IV. They looked after both political and social life of Tagma village.

P2: The roles of Dung in the locality were the Dung controlled the Tagma village and
unified the village as one. They looked after the welfare of the villagers and brought
peace and prosperity in the locality. And they also looked after the political and social
welfare of the village. Furthermore in olden days there were taxation system, in that case
Dung took responsibility to collect all the taxes from the villagers and send it to the
dzong. In that way villagers didn’t faced much problem regarding taxes. And under the
control of Dung all the festivals and rituals which are needed to perform in the locality
were conducted by Dung. They also took responsibility to solve every problems that are
related to the Tagma village.
P3: Some of the roles of dung in the locality were;
 The Dung controls both political and social affairs of the village.
 The Dung organized and conduct all the festivals and rituals that are needed to be
perform in the locality.
 The Dung looks after the taxation system.
 The Dung also looks after the well-being of the villagers.
 The Dung helped in the unification or growth or Tagma village.

I: Origin of Dung Family?


P1: The main origin of the Dung family is from Ura and Zhongar. And the ancestor of the
Dung is Lhawang Dragpa. There are many descendent of Dung still found in the different
part of the kingdom. In that way it also reached to Tagma village and other parts of
khyeng region like; Tunglabi, Goshing, Phangkhar, and Shingkhar.
P2: The main origin of Dung Family is from Uraand Zhongar. The Lhawang Dragpa was
the ancestor of the Dung families. Through the great origin of Dung families, there are
many descendent of Dung still found in the different parts of the kingdom. In that way it
reached to Tagma village too. In khyeng; the Tunglabi, Goshing, Phangkhar, Tagma and
Shingkhar.
P3: The main origin of Dung is from Bumthang and the Lhawang Dragpa is the ancestor
of the Dung families. There are many descendent of the Dung residing in different parts
of the country still now. However in that way it also reached to Tagma village in khyeng.
In khyeng there are; Tunglabi Dung, Goshing Dung, and Phangkhar Dung.
