CONGO
In Congo, 3 out of 5 people do
not have access to electricity.
As a country with a very low
population density, Congo
faces particularly severe
challenges in bringing energy
of any kind to its rural
communities.

It is located in Central Africa having 250mile coastline on Atlantic Ocean . Kinshasa is

the capital which is located on CONGO River about 320 mile from mouth. It has 10
provinces and two small sea ports. Country is rich in natural resources including one
of the largest reserves in Africa and half of the hydroelectric potential of the
continent , having large basin , major valley , high plateaus, three mountain ranges
and low coastal plain but still facing the electricity shortage in the whole country.
Less than 10% of the population has access to electricity today, making Democratic
Republic of the Congo the country with the largest number of people without access
in Africa after Nigeria.

RENEWABLE
RESOURCES

Here we will discuss the three main renewable

resources according to CONGO country and pick one
of them which will benefit the most.
1. BIOMASS ENERGY
2. HYDRO ELECTRIC POWER
3. SOLAR POWER

Hydro Electric Power is the most efficient technology which we can used in CONGO country in
order to get maximum power as world’s 9th largest river is in CONGO.
HYDROELECTRIC POWER

40% CONGO RIVER

The Congo River, formerly known as the Zaire River during the dictatorship of Mobutu
Sese Seko, is the second longest river in Africa, shorter only than the Nile, as well as the
second largest river in the world by discharge volume, following only the Amazon. Congo
River can provide 40,000MW of power in the country and fulfil the approx. 40% requirement of
electric power in the country.
2 HYDROELECTRIC

CONGO River also known as Zaire River in ancient times, it is the second largest continent river after Nile.
It rises highlands of northeastern Zambia between lakes Tanganyika and Nyasa Malawi. Elevation is about
5760 ft, (1760 meters) above sea level and at a distance of 430 miles , (700km) from Indian Ocean. It is the
deepest river in the world reaching 720ft and the 9th largest river in the world having 2920 miles length with
an area of 4000000 kilometer squares.
