the city of Lambayeque, where he taught mathematics and held the
position of vice-chancellor.

Studies

Between 1877 and 1880, he studied in the mathematical sciences

section of the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Mayor
de San Marcos (UNMSM).
Villarreal completed his career graduating as a doctor of mathematical
sciences through the thesis: Classification of third-degree curves, work
that stood out for its originality and conclusions, thus meriting the gold
medal awarded by the Faculty of Sciences on September 23, 1881
Villarreal discovers the method to elevate any polynomial to any
power.
It is for all these reasons that Villarreal can be said fairly: "The Newton
of Peru"
Federico Villarreal was the first Peruvian to be considered as a
mathematical expert.
At the age of 31 Villarreal, Peru's first professional scientific
mathematician, applied to the former School of Engineers, graduating
as a civil engineer and later as a mine engineer.
He graduated from high school, with the thesis: Formulas and methods
to be completed in pure mathematics (1879)
His contributions in civil engineering

 As a mathematician, he did work on the powers of binomials and

polynomials, on magical squares and number theory.
 In Civil Engineering, he published several works, highlighting: Beam
recessed at two ends and Deformation of beams that work to flex.

Death and tributes

On June 3, 1923, Federico Villarreal ceased to exist and with

him, Peru lost a character whose life was dedicated to constant
discovery and research.
