Acknowledgement
Firstly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor Prof. Kasish Mehta for the
continuous support of my undergraduate study and related research, for her patience, motivation,
and immense knowledge. Her guidance helped me in all the time of research and writing of this
assignment. I could not have imagined having a better advisor and mentor for my undergradute
study.

Besides my advisor, I would like to thank the rest of my guides Dr. Swapna panda, Dr. .Prasant
Kumar, Dr. Dharmender Singh for their insightful comments and encouragement, but also for the
hard question which incented me to widen my research from various perspectives.

Last but not the least, I would like to thank my family: my parents and to my brothers and sister
for supporting me spiritually throughout writing this thesis and my my life in general.
Introduction
Nano spray dryers is related to dry spraying to create particles in the nanometer range. Spray
drying is a gentle method for producing powders with a defined particle size out of solutions,
dispersions, and emulsions which is widely used for pharmaceuticals, food, biotechnology, and
other industrial materials synthesis.

In the past, the limitations of spray drying were the particle size (minimum 2 micrometers), the
yield (maximum around 70%), and the sample volume (minimum 50 ml for devices in lab scale).
Recently, minimum particle sizes have been reduced to 300 nm yields up to 90% are possible,
and the sample amount can be as small as 1 ml. These expanded limits are possible due to new
technological developments to the spray head, the heating system, and the electrostatic particle
collector. To emphasize the small particle sizes possible with this new technology, it has been
described as "nano" spray drying. However, the smallest particles produced are in the sub-
micrometre range common to fine particles rather than the nanometer scale of ultrafine particles.

Principle of working

First the solid content is increased while liquid content is decreased .Its a must for evaporation
process. Atomization is done to give ideal characteristics to the product and prepare the content
for spray drying. In droplet contact section atomized liquid is brought called spray drying
chamber where liquid and hot gas gets in contact and heat is absorbed by liquid and evaporates.
Primary separation is done by littelatiy falling the particles on the bottom of the chamber and
secondary separation is done by cyclone, electronic precipators or bag fillers
Applications
Pharmacuticals
Different types of vaccine preparation such as insulin, growth hormones and heat sensitive
drugs .Nano capsules of biodegradable materials. Porous drug carriers for nanoparticle
suspensions alsp this dryer is used. Excipients for controlled drug release studies etc
Food science
Vitamins and other food additives .Nano food functional additives. Encapsulation of fish oil for
smell protection. Spray drying of fine power aromas for pet food . To increase surface area also
spray dryers are used.
Material science
Fine material powder production. High performance ceramics. Titanium oxide particles. Carbon
nanotubes as additives Finest pigments for paint and coating.

Conclusion
Basically, Nano spray dryer has functionality as normal dryers’ .Recently Nano drying has got
momentum in the field of pharmaceuticals and food industry. Electronic preceptors’ are used to
separate the final desired product. Nano drying is possible due to Nano spay head availability.
