WHAT IS QLIKE SENSE:

Qlik Sense is a data analysis and visualization software. It operates with an associative QIX engine which
enables the user to link and associate data from varied sources and carries out dynamic searching and
selections. Qlik Sense serves as a data analytics platform for a wide range of users i.e. from non-
technical to technical users.

Qlik Sense is designed to provide self-service data visualization and business intelligence capabilities for
individuals and organizations. Qlik Sense is built on the QIX Associative Data Indexing engine but Qlik
Sense offers a simplified user interface, drag-and-drop visualizations, and the ability to load data without
manually editing scripts.

Qlik Sense Desktop has given the ability to share visualization apps and dashboards without licensing
restrictions. Individuals are now able to share files with one another, or upload them to the cloud where
they can be accessed anywhere on computers and mobile devices. Qlik Sense aims to promote rapid
data discovery and visualization, and facilitate sharing analyses on a variety of devices. Qlik Sense is
designed from the ground up for self serve BI on a variety of devices. With Sense users will be able to
develop directly on the server instead of having to manage a single file among multiple developers. You
can even develop full Qlik Sense applications on an iPad or tablet. Sense’s responsive design means that
a single application will resize itself on your phone, tablet or laptop without having to develop specific
UIs for each form factor.  The best part; Qlik Sense uses the same data that QlikView does. You will be
able to leverage all of your existing load scripts and data aggregations immediately.

Quick Data Load

Loading data into Qlik Sense can be as easy as dragging and dropping a file or dataset into the app you
are working on. Based on the column and header information you select, Qlik Sense will automatically
generate a script to load the data into your app. Qlik Sense supports many of the data formats that
QlikView users are familiar with including, spreadsheets, delimited data, fixed length data, and QV file
formats.

Data Exploration, Discovery, and Visualization

Qlik Sense provides a clean interface to build data exploration, discovery, and visualization apps. Qlik
Sense provides a large selection of charts, tables, and visualizations. As with QV, data is automatically
indexed for searching and associative exploration. It is worth noting that pivot tables are not included in
the list of default charts and tables.

Collaboration and Communication

Data Storytelling is a feature new to Qlik Sense that allows users to create presentations and share
insights. Users can take snapshots of data and visualizations, add text and graphics, and create
presentations that link to interactive apps all within Qlik Sense. When users are done performing data
analysis and organizing their findings, they have the option to share their files directly with other users
or upload them to Qlik Cloud. Apps on Qlik Cloud can be accessed on computers, tablets, and
smartphones through a public URL. Visualizations and charts are designed to support touch screens.

Easy to Use. The product is easy to use. It’s designed for the end user so they can truly perform self-
serve BI with no more waiting on IT to build a report. In fact it’s so easy even our salespeople can build
solutions and tell their story using the tool. A member of our sales team, with no previous experience or
training with Qlik Sense, grabbed the tool and in an afternoon had built an application to communicate
to the rest of the team his sales activity, where we were getting traction, what activities were generating
results and what activities weren’t. Imagine what your team could do with some training!

Storytelling. Qlik Sense has a new feature called storytelling. It allows you to build presentations within
the tool so you can share the insights you gain in your analysis. The benefit of their storytelling feature is
the ability to instantly return to the analysis application to answer questions your audience may have.

Associative Data Engine. Qlik Sense still has the Associative Data Engine allowing us to see what is
associated with the data you have selected. This is extremely powerful in providing insight into the
relationships between items in your business. Adding to this is the “Smart Search” which allows you to
search for and find anything regardless of where it is in your data.

ii. Limitations of Qlik Sense

 There are some issues on the client side like some features malfunctioning in iOS, qvf and qvw
files not being saved separately etc.

 Sometimes more than usual memory space is used while working in the
analysis mode, slowing the processing and hindering the proper functioning of the
app.

 Issue regarding screen size adjusting and other impairments in the desktop objects have been
reported by the clients using Qlik Sense on mobile devices like iPads, tablets, mobile phones etc.

 Issues in loading data in the script or data load editor have been encountered.
Problems related to ODBC connections, data from the sheet, script’s.

 Often in the edit modes of scripts or storytelling, the software hangs and
becomes unresponsive. This does not give the user a smooth experience with the
software.

 The storytelling feature has limitations as some languages like Japanese,
Chinese, etc are not supported entirely.

 In order to install a new Qlik Sense Sever on your device, you must have the
server from the previous version installed on the same device. Also, the server
installation settings cannot be stored in a folder having Japanese, Russian,
Chinese characters. If done so, the server installation will not take place properly.
