ID: jomararr
PROBLEM 6.0
number of replicates = 3

TOTAL:

(1) = 22+31+25 = 78

 a = 104
 b = 119
 ab = 148
 c = 127
 ac = 113
 bc = 164
 abc = 127

FACTOR EFFECTS:

A=(1/ 4 n)∗(−(1)+a−b+ab−c +ac−bc+ abc)

1
A=( )×(−78+ 104−119+148−127+113−164+127)
12

A=0.333

B=(1/4 n)∗(−(1)−a+b +ab−c−ac +bc +abc )

1
B=( )×(−78−104+119+ 148−127−113+164 +127)
12

B=11.333

C=( 1/4 n)∗(−(1)−a−b−ab+c +ac +bc +abc)

1
C=( ) ×(−78−104−119−148+127+ 113+164+ 127)
12

C=6.833

PROBLEM 6.1
a) From the normal probability plot of effects below, factor B, C, and the AC
interaction appear to be significant.
b) The analysis of variance confirms the significance of factor B, C, and AC
interaction.

The reduced model ANOVA is shown below. Factor A was included to maintain
hierarchy.
e) Since B has a positive effect, set B at the high level to increase life. The AC
interaction plot reveals that life would be maximized with c at the high level and
A at the low level.

The

interaction plot for A and C is:

PROBLEM 6.3

1
SE(effect )=
√ n ×2k−2
× S2

1
SE(effect )=
√ 3 ×23−2
×30.17

SE(effect )=2.24
Variable Effect

A 0.333

B 11.333

AB -1.667

C 6.833

AC -8.833

BC -2.833

ABC -2.167

The 95% confidence intervals for factor B, C and AC do not contain zero. This agrees
with the analysis of variance approach.
