Course Description Every business exists to serve the customer. Whether the business is in a
business-to-business (B2B) market or business-to-consumer (B2C) market,
being able to accurately forecast demand, manage inventory and fulfill
customer orders within a competitive delivery lead time is a critical
component of business success. This course focuses on important planning
strategies and tools that are commonly used in business practice for demand
planning and fulfillment of customer requirements. Major topics include:
• Setting the context for demand planning
• Continuous improvement in demand planning
• Pricing strategies and revenue management implications for demand
planning
• Common forecasting methods
• Sales and operations planning (S&OP) and master production scheduling
(MPS)
• Distribution/Materials/Capacity Requirements Planning (DRP/ MRP/ CRP)
• Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
• Inventory management
• Fulfillment of customer orders and service requirements
• Related Excel functions
The course is structured as a combination of lectures, in-class exercises,
discussion and a group project.
Course Objectives This course is designed to help students develop skills and knowledge in the
following areas:
 Understand on the concepts in demand & supply planning and order
fulfillment.
 Equip students with the related quantitative and qualitative approaches
and tools commonly used in practice.

Quiz & Assignment There will be at least 3 quizzes & 4-5 assignments (at most 10 minutes each quiz).

Exams Mid Term and Final exams will be closed book, closed notes.

Test Policy If you are absent from a test, and do not inform me beforehand with a genuine
reason, your grade for the test will be zero.

Grading The course grade will be determined from a weighted average of the class
participation, quizzes, assignments, case study, mid-terms and final exams and the
project. The weights are as follows:

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

ATTENDANCE AND CLASS PREPARATION POLICY


Attendance will be formally monitored. Every student is expected to contribute to class discussions.
Continuing, thoughtful and thorough participation in all aspects of the class will enable students to maximize
their benefit from this course. Some ground rules include:
• This class requires that you bring a calculator and class notes to each class.
• Attend with an open mind – seek to learn.
• Engage in class discussions – focus on substance/quality.
• Please email the professor in advance, if you will be absent, late, or have to leave early.
Case studies, articles and textbook reading assignments are to be read prior to coming to class. Class
discussions will be held in class, and everyone is expected to participate. If it is apparent that you have
repeatedly missed class and/or are unprepared for the discussion, points will be taken off your class
participation grade. Expect me to attend all class sessions. I expect the same of you. If I am to be absent, my
department chair or I will send you notice via email and Blackboard as far in advance as possible. If you are
to be absent, report please your absence in advance by sending me an email with the details and supporting
documentation.

CLASSROOM CONDUCT
Classroom conduct is about respect for the professor and respect for each and every individual student.
Please observe the following guidelines:
• Expect me to arrive on time for each class session. I expect the same of you. Expect me to remain for the
entirety of each class session. I expect the same of you.
• Expect me to prepare properly for each class session. I expect the same of you. Complete all background
reading and assignments. You cannot learn if you are not prepared. The minimum expectation is that for
each 1.5 hour class session, you have prepared by studying for at least twice as many hours.
• Expect me to participate fully in each class session. I expect the same of you. Stay focused and involved. You
cannot learn if you are not paying attention.
• EMAIL, WEB SURF, TEXT AND USE CELL PHONES AND IPADS BEFORE AND AFTER CLASS – NOT DURING.
• Tell your buddies and friends not to text you during class hours.
• Side conversations while the professor is lecturing, will not be tolerated.
• If you bring food or drink into the classroom, be courteous toward your fellow students and clean up after
yourself during the break.
