plant or factory while logistic and supply chain management deal with acquiring or
distributing materials and resources.

1.) Identify the operational strategies adapted in your own organization

Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) is one of the largest construction


company sir Lanka in which currently I am working. Operational strategies followed by
the technics and methods using to achieve organizational objectives and goals. In the
context of CECB, following underpin operational strategies have adopted for delivering
the product and services required to satisfy the client requirements.
1. A flexible management system has developed across the organization, which
facilitates recurrent operational activities. Authorities have delegated to middle
managers as they can proceed with the essential operational decision so that the
process of delivering a product or services will not interrupt.
2. Islandwide operational activities have distributed under provincial bases to
accommodate effective client interactions so that the organization can acquire
more construction projects and services.
3. CECB has built its capabilities to provide products and services in various
disciplinaries such as the construction of buildings, sewerage treatment plants,
roads, towers, dams, hydropower plants, and consultancy services, etc.
4. CECB can be introduced as a learning organization where employees get trained
and developed to enhance the organizational brand name.
2.) What are the elements of operation management, you could identify at your workplace?

The elements of operation management are planning, organizing, coordinating, and


controlling of resources needed for generating products and services. The following
elements of operation management could be identified in the context of CECB.

1. CECB has embraced project planning tools and techniques in its operations to
improve operational efficiency, such as software packages – primavera and MS
project.
2. The well-established organizational structure and its functional ability have
improved the real-time decision-making power of the project manager to organize
most effectively.
3. Organizational culture has molded its employees to be the most effective
communicators, and the existing ERP system facilitates recent updates of
available resources.
4. CECB has certified under ISO standards and followed its guidelines to effectively
controlling of available resources such as stores, method statements, safety, the
environmental aspects, etc.

3.) How your organization compete with competitors

CECB is a semi-government organization which has built the reputation by providing


product and services that are essential for government institutions. CECB is the largest state-
owned construction and engineering service provider in the country and operates under the
government’s policies. The aforesaid competitive advantage has enabled getting cabinet
approved construction projects to the organization without following the tender procedure.

On the other hand, the flexibility of the organization has enabled attracting clients to get
product services that are essential for them within a defined period.

CECB has built its reputation to attract employees who have the knowledge and
competencies over the various engineering disciplines is another competitive advantage.
